For anyone here with a real Weber...

If anyone here has one or a pair of Weber manufactured 727-737 pilot's seats, I have a question for you.

I have the back of the seat cut and I'm fitting it now, but I need to know how deep the openings are that hold the life vest pouches (you know that gray material they made a small bag out of with elastic cord at the top).

I have some great pictures of the backs of these seats sent to me by Joe, but there is no indication of depth of these openings in the photos.

I'd appreciate the help!

LOL Mike, If the only problem you have run into when building those beautiful seats, is how deep to make a pocket, Dude you got it made.

I have 8 Life vests, and they are very small. Deflated and packaged about 8" by 6" by 3"

I think the odds of having access to measure these would be slim to none, but don't you think you could just estimate. For instance, I am sure they could hold a binder, aprox 4" thick and you would have to be able to reach into the bottom to be able to grab the pen that you dropped into the pocket, so maybe 16 to 18" Deep.

If I had someone enter my cockpit and looked at me and said.. Dude.. your sim looks great, but the pockets in your seats are 1" or 2" too deep, that person would be lucky if they were still breathing when I dragged them out of my house.

The point I am making, is sometimes you just shouldn't sweat over the little stuff.

I truly hope you get the measurement you seek.

Well, I know there are a couple here who have them, jusy not sure who they are.

I just want it as close to real as possible and to make sure that the bags aren't hanging outside of the openings. The openings themselves are fine and about the size they're supposed to be. I hope they aren't 4" deep, the seat back is only 3-1/2" deep!

No I would imagine the indent in the seat is only 1" But the elastic top should streach out to allow a 4" binder in there, thats what I meant ROFL

I'm making them 2" deep.

Have the framework cut and assembled. The glue is drying now. Should be dry by noon. I have two large metal parts boxes resting on the framework for weight and a good bond.

Top Pocket
12 1/2" wide at bottom tapering to 11" wide at top.
8 1/2" high
3" deep at bottom 2 3/4" deep at top.

Bottom Pocket
13 1/2" wide x 8" high
3 1/4" deep at bottom, 3" deep at top.

Thanks for the measurements. I got the openings right within a 1/4", but I had no idea the inside back wall tapered to a lesser depth.

Two inches looks about right to me and I'm satisfied with the depth of the openings.

Here's a few shots with the seat back in position held on with thumb tacks. I also included a couple of the suspension work. After seeing the detail up close on these seats, there's no way I could replicate all of that without a nice mill and a lathe. I'm just going to let it go as-is.

But I am going to fabricate the front and rear crossmember that goes at the bottom between the front and rear feet.

Now I can start cutting the plastic laminate for the seat back sides.
