if anybody is using a keyboard emmulation can you wire rotary encoders up to a keyboard card. i know you can with push buttons and toggles but i dont know about rotaries.
Anyone shed some light?
Thanks

You would need a rotary encoder (Decoder card) See www.hcbparts.com They have a card that turns each rotary direction into a switch input.

I think Hagstrom does one as well.

Here's an alternative, it's a Pulse Switch (http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/TW-700079.pdf) that applies a keypress in one direction and a different keypress when turned in the other. Apply it to a keyboard encoder or joystick. These are currently from Mouser, but might be available elsewhere if you search.

That's ingenious. Too bad it's a pc board mount. I'll have to check my catalog and see if it's offered in a different style.

The pulse switches work, but they are not as smooth as a rotoary, I have several. BSW I have some that are PC mount as well but they have the threaded collar I got them from Mouser. I think they where less then $3.00 each. I am not using too many now but the ones I have are in my EFIS panels for the BAR adjustment and Decision hight.

Thanks for the info on the threaded collar. That makes it a lot more versatile for the builder.

THe pulse switch looks interesting - could someone provide me with a direct link to the exact pulse switch you are talking about. As i can find it too well on the site and there is more than one.
Thanks in advance:D

does anyone know anywhere in the UK where pulse switches can be bought - i would save me a £££ when buying in bulk in the postage cost!
