Shredded image

When I use a second monitor for outside view the image is sometimes briefly shredded...
Has to be a setting of the vid card...any idea?

My guess is overheating of the video card. Be sure the fan is working properly and there's no dust clogging it.

Hard to say. When it happens next could you snap a digital photo of it via a camera or celphone and post it here? That'll help me better diagnose the issue.

possibly a low resolution. even better tip just hit the print screen key on your keyboard (top right) this will take a screenshot of your computer at the time then just paste it here.

Generally, artifacting points towards heat issues. Pretty standard problems with heat issues are:

1) Bad cable management in the case. Be mindful of how the computer cables are organized. They have the chance to really impede the flow of air through the case. Also bad cable management sometimes leads to a stray cable jamming into the video card fan and wreaking havok. Also make sure that is not happening.

2) Check the ambient temps of your case with some sort of computer temperature utility after the cables are checked. If cables are not the problem, but you still have ambient temp issues inside the case, spend $10-15 getting some better cfm case fans put into it.

3) Make sure you're not overclocking the gpu and video ram too much. This issue creates a whole other high temperature problem that generates the same artifact issues.

Artifacting is a symptom of parts of the video hardware being pushed past it's limits for some reason. If not diagnosed and corrected soon it'll lead to permanent damage to the video card. Sometimes it is a symptom of permanent damage to the gpu or video ram already. I'd isolate out all issues though before determining that though. If artifacting only happens after a few minutes of play, it's most likely not permanent, it's just heat issues. If it happens instantly when you turn on the machine or enter 3d mode you might have video card damage.
