hello everybody

I am using a Geforce 8800GTS on a Vista 64bit machine, having no problems with the graphics until now. but i recently bought a sony psone tft screen for my opencockpits FMC (747-400) . Now, i did connect the tft to the TV-out connector om my graphic card. but no luck. I did try everything to get it to work, but in the nvidia settings i can t even click somewhere on the "force tv activation" icon. it is greyed out, so i can t click on it.

does anybody has any clue whats going on here?

thanks a lot

Marc

Every tutorial i have read on the PSone LCD MOD recomends using a second video card instead of using the primary video card. So you may want to try that although there are probably tutorials that say otherwise. There is a program that might help you with the problem it is called powerstrip and can be found here http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm.

Google "PSOne LCD mods using powerstrip" for more info on how to setup the LCD using powerstrip.

Hope this solves your issue.

Hi Marc

I hope you did connected the Psone before trying to activate the TV icon
If so :
You may try to connect 75 ohm resistor in paralel to Tv output
Thats will help your Geforce to sense tv device connected to the tv_out
For simple tryal just connect such resistor and see if "force tv activation" icon
still remains greyed out even without actualy connecting the Psone

Hope thats hepls

I use my psone, attached to the Nvidia Primary card's TV out. and works without a hitch.

The issue your having is the video card is not detecting the monitor attached to the card.

1st suggestion from me, is go try a different driver, get the latest and greatest and see what happens after that.

#2 Plug the monitor into your video card, and reboot the computer, go into setting at select the monitor #2. Click the checkmark beside extend my windows desktop onto this monitor.

Keep in mind you will probably need to keep flight sim running in windowed mode to use this screen.

The new Nvidia cards have been having problems with this and other issues using tv out. Havent found a solution yet, but some switch to ATI cards

Marc,

Here's a LINK (http://www.bit-tech.net/modding/2004/07/07/psone_lcd/1) to a site explaining how to hack a PSOne so you can attach it to a VGA output instead of the TV Out. Better than your TV/Composite output but does require some electronics ability (but what doesn't in this hobby?).

Might help.

One thing to be aware of with this mod is that you need a video card that provides C-Sync. Unfortunately most of the newer NVidea don't, but the ATI cards do. But all is not lost as there are electronic circuits that will produce C-Sync from the available H-Sync and V-Sync (just means more electronic ability needed). Just google for it. I will probably be needing to do this myself as I just got a PS1 LCD and I have a NVidea card and so far I am also having no luck getting it to be recognize on TV-out.

Henry

Henry, are you trying the vga port? And what kind of adapter thing do you need for it to be considered a computer monitor?

Thanks for the tip Henry. I've done some trawling (cause I'm going to want to do this someday) and HERE (http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/vga2rgbs.html) is another link explaining how to make your own VGA to C-Sync adapter, again for the (very!) technically minded.

I run my CDU on a video card I got from ebay for $10.00 with shipping... All that is needed.... It is an old ATI card with I think 8mb of ram...:p But it runs the CDU just fine.

Lezam: In order to use the vga port of your video card to connect to the PS1, you need to use the method that Ken provided (see link in his first message). The adapter you need to make goes from the vga out of your video card to a internal connector on the circuit board of the PS1 (you need to take the ps1 apart to access that connector). And you may also need the C-Sync circuit that Ken provided in his 2nd message.

Ken: Thanks for the C-Sync link.

Bob: From what I have been hearing, a lot of people are having trouble getting an ATI card to work along side an NVidea card in the same computer. What's your primary video card?

Regards,
Henry

Well it is the only video card in that machine... That machine only does the CDU... So they may be right...

hello guys

many thanks for your help, i guess it is due to the nvidia card that nothing works,....

so, if i plug in an old radeon card together with my nvidia card, there will be trouble as well, as they don t work together?

and a last question. the connector from tv-out to the psone screen, how many poles should it have (the part which goes into the psone) three or four? (maybe somebody can upload a pic of their connector)

thanks a lot

There shouldn't be any probs as long as you only instal the drivers for you secondary adapter. (Drivers and control software should off course be installed to your prim card) The conflict is between the Nvidia control panel and Catalyst Control Center.

I have had both Nvidia and Ati running on my rig. Find an old pci card with tv out. At the moment I have an old Geforce 2 pci for my cdu.

It's been awhile since I struggled with my cdu but I seem to remember that using the vga method wasn't an option for me since there was several users that actually couldnt se any advantage at all. It doesn't give any better image quality at all to the cdu software, only when presenting the win desktop.

How is it possible to have two graphic cards in one machine? Is it possible to have 3 or more?

Well, that is really good to know.... Thanks sas.

Lezam: Yes it is possible to have 3 or more. Some of the newer motherboards coming out have up to 4 PCI-E ports on them. If you only have 1 PCI-E port, you can also use PCI video cards.

Any older PCI card with tv out. If you plan to go the VGA way I guess any adapter will do.

Since you allready have a nvidia card, look for an old gforce pci. It doesn't require any powerful stuff to run the cdu screen.

Any nvidia PCI video card will do (or ATI, but as sas550 mentioned, don't load the Catalyst software, just the video driver). Matrox has some (Millennium, Mystique,.....). Just search eBay.

Awesome! Im going to buy one of those and see if it works! So, I can have something like 8 monitors on one pc? I have 3 pci slots with two monitors each, and one pci express with 2 monitors. Would that work?

My experience has been that my framerate dropped 10fps for every panel I open and drag onto a monitor. This is on a Pentium D 3.4GHz with Nvidea 7900Gs (PCI-E) and FX5200 (PCI). I'm also using a Matrox TripleHead2Go and I have 5 monitors so far.
How well this works for you will also depend on how powerful your computer system is...... but no matter what you have it will take a hit so be cautious before wasting money on 3 PCI video cards.

Well, if I get a quad core processor, 4gb of ram, a 8800gt to run my fs, and some cruddy graphics cards to run 6 monitors... how much can I loose?

Figure, if I use the machine with FS only... I would get maybe 90 fps. Divide that by 70 fps... and im getting 20 fps. It sounds like that may work? Pack everything into a supercomputer.

According to my experience you’ll have an fps-penalty only in case of using several outside views. There is no fps-problem if you use old videocards just for additional panels.

That is not what I experience, but I can't argue with what you got. Of course, I got a crappy computer and video cards too.

Hey Lezam, just try it and see... be interesting to see if you could get 8 monitors going on the one computer with acceptable framerates. Let us know.

I want to do it, but I think it would be quite a waste of money if it didnt work out. Right now I have a core 2 duo with 2gb ram. Im going to try 5 monitors (thats all I have) and will be sure to update you on the status.

Well , just to encourage you,:)

In my previous setup i had Tripple2go conncted to geforce 7950 with addition of 3 cheap Ati pci card [with 8 M mem]for undocked panels display
So total7 screens
Now i removed one of them , just becouse i builded hardware overhead and dont need this one anymore-- so still 6 left
Fps was and still is good even with sliders maxed with Fs9
For outside view--only the Tripple2go connected to one of Geforce
outputs

Anyway thats not a waist of the money
Enjoy

Do you have any pictures of your setup? Also, where you using project magenta or something else for your panels?

:pthis is very interesting thread.

I don't want to highjeck this thead. But I have to ask!

I have an old GForce Ti 4200 128 ram in my closet collecting dust. My Primery is GForce 6800 GS 256 ram.

Are you guys saying that I can put my old card in my computer and use it for what ever I want? Do I install 2 separate sets of drivers?

Thanks Mike

Hi again

I can email you some pics as attacment

Now about magenta---anywhere you are not using Open gl--like Eicas , Fms ,no prob to use the additional pci cards on the same comp
With all kind of undocked 2d panels and gauges even simple and cheap pci cards works great
As to Pm Nd and Pfd you may suffer bad perfomance becouse open gl
Alsow i would like to mention i have the Xp pro and never tryed to do that with Vista as simple dont own that
Another point: you have to check-drivers availabilty for your OS regarding the adapter you purchassing
Some older cards may not have updated drivers for new Os
You may consider even dualhead PCI card

Win2000 drivers usualy works with XP

Mike , as long there are drivers for your Pci card supporting your current OS and available Pci slot on yur comp--no probs

Regards guys

It was certainly my experience that frame rates suffered as you open more windows. They suffer more when in Full Screen mode than windowed and more so when it's an outside view (probably due to greater video activity). However I found by using the Matrox TH2GO on 3 screens the frame rates only suffered as though you were using a single monitor (good news). I run an AGP card along with a PCI and both nvidia. My next experiment is to run two Matrox boxes from the one PC i.e. TH2GO along with a DH2GO for a panoramic 5 widescreen outside view!!!

I remember reading somewhere that your primary video card does all the work in a multi-card system with any additional cards simply giving more video outputs. So the beefier your main card the better and you can add any old card to provide additional outputs. Not sure of the validity of this, maybe others have more details.

This ishue was even discussed on this forum and some link , not FS related, even was saved by me

I have heard that Matrox state it's not possible to run two boxes from one system, however I remember reading on the Avsim forums that someone had achieved it. I've been wondering for some time so I thought if I could pick up a cheap DH2GO I'd test it once and for all then share it with the sim world. Why a Dual instead of Triple? Cost. I hope to have results in the next couple of weeks.

EDIT: Oops only followed your link after posting this response. Yes I've seen this setup before and it obviously proves two units can run off one card. Now to see what it does to frame rates. I'm building a new Quad core flightsim PC next week and it will run FS9 & FSX so I hope to have some tests completed. My eventual aim is to run it on 5 x 22" Widescreen LCD's but I don't think the budget will come to setting all this up in one go. I'll use my current CRT's mixed with LCD's until then.

Ken,
If your going for a nice quad core, why dont you try out stuffing the max possible pci cards into it and seeing if if you can manage it? I'm not sure FS9 would work well, but I hear FSX can run off multiple cores... and if thats the case you shouldnt see much framerate loss.
