Visit to the "Guru" of Sim Building in Gobowen, England

Hi everyone,

Just to let you all know that I recently paid a visit to fellow cockpit builder, Ian Sissons' home and got into his B737 Sim for a flight on a VATSIM controlled flight from Malpensa to Napoli.

I must say that at first glance at the cockpit in his garage, my jaw dropped at the setup of the cockpit and the skill gone into the building of the cockpit. Ian you have outdone yourself and I must thank you for having me over to your home for the chance to fly your sim. Also the fact that you are always ever willing to part with your knowledge of cockpit building to others is impeckable. I learnt so much in that 4 hrs at your sim than I have done in the last few years that I have put my sim together. Your wiring skills and well thought out methods of figuring out the wiring of the switches and lights was brilliant. Now why didnt I think of it.

I will post some photos soon and also a link of a video made in the sim.

Having also visited Ian's superb setup I totally agree with all of Chris's comments - great sim - great hospitality and it's all Ian's fault that I am now building my own version due originally to his website!

Ian's website was certainly a major factor in me not just thinking about it, but getting on and doing it. His description of how he tackled some of the hurdles involved continue to be invaluable.:)

Gentlemen, good day.....
i just have to say thanks to you for the very complimentary comments. part of the pleasure is sharing the experiences and encouraging new (and existing) builders to go the extra mile. it's well worth it. we are a very smart and innovative bunch and as ken says "knowledge is usless unless shared" - very true.
and i have one or two things up my sleeve, i am writing it all up now. i've beaten the power switching logic on the overhead panel and 'simplified' it. it's 99% right. chris answered the last couple of questions when he was here... i'll post when the new doc is finished.
