I was wondering what others have been using for seat slides. I've bought a couple of captains chairs for a boat and was planning to bolt these onto plywood pedastal but now I'm thinking that being able to slide the seat fore and aft would be cool, if I can do it relatively cheaply. I got the seats cheaper by not buying the swivel base and I asked the store owner but he didn't have a mount that slid fore and aft. I was also wondering what paint finish ie gloss, flat, etc do most of you use on your grey cockpit interior? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hi Shawn

If you are able to return the boat seats you will find it's much easier to go to a junk yard and purchase two car seats with the seat rails. Then you have rails that work perfect with no engineering needed.

All the best!

That was the first place I looked but the only seats I was able to find that would fit in my cockpit were aftermarket, leather bucket seats from a wrecked Mustang. The auto wreckers wanted $450.00 bucks for the set? they would have looked great but that's outside my budget. I'm building the cockpit and panel to scale (TC690) so to fit two seats in on either side of the centre console they have to be 15' wide or less. I was planning to build the seat boxes onto two aluminum rails so they can be adjusted but that seems a bit rudimentary:(

Wow, I picked up 2 Acura Integra seats, almost new for $50.00 out of a junk yard, I couldn't have found a better deal.

They have the seat sliders in them already. I kind of wish it had a bit more travel to it, but it seems to work pretty good for me.

I have recently seen some nice seat sliders on the site, and have heard of people using heavy duty Filing cabinet drawer sliders. All good options. Use the forum search tool for seats and I am sure you will find something.

Best regards,

Trev

I'm planning on using automobile power seat track assemblies. You can sometimes find them cheap on eBay.

Shawn,

Alain Tremblay made an excellent set of seat slides. His site is in French, but the pictures alone tell the story. http://www.sim-737ng.com/siege/siege.htm

Mine are from a 2003 PT Cruiser and I paid 60 for them. Very close to new. I got them the same day the car went into the yard. I got lucky. I have seen folks use drawer sliders for rails. Mine set on a metal frame I constructed. But the move fore/aft as the would normally. If I ever do it all over again short of finding some way fantastic deal on real (not very probable) I will go with power seats.
