Which plane???????????

Hi.

I want to move from a Twin Otter to something larger (not 737 or the like!).
I thought of the Dash 8, but the overhead is massive and I would not like to interface something that complicated. Are there any projects out there, that are reasonable to build without an overhead to die for (literally).

All suggestions most welcome.

Are you looking to stay with a prop plane?


what about a the Embraer 120 or if thats still too small there is always the ATR-72 Although i think it might have a compilacted overhead like the Dash 8 but im not sure.

King Air, is rather nice. and the CRJ has a small overhead as well.

Plus CRJ doesn´t have that many LED displays most stuff is shown on the PFD and ND screens it is a Builders dream!! And lots of good software for it!

I would strongly suggest the Learjet 45. The LJ45 community is growing larger by the month! Not to mention, there will be panels and all the structural parts available soon too.

Here's my reasoning for the LJ45 for a home built sim:

Software:

The Learjet 45 comes as a default aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator, and with each new release of the software the flight model and features of the aircraft become more and more realistic and acceptable. Since it is a DEFAULT aircraft in the basic software package, there is no need to buy a 3rd-party addition for the actual aircraft once the default files have been user-tweaked and made as realistic as possible. Since it is default, there are no issues to contend with that other builders face when trying to use 3rd party aircraft add-ons for their home simulators. Tweaking and better .air files are being made available every few months now.

Size and Performance:

The Learjet 45 has the ability to operate in and out of smaller airfields and this opens up more flying oportunities for the home simmer that has little time for spending long hours completing city pairs for their airliner simulators. It is not uncommon in the real world for a Learjet 45 to be tasked to transport passengers from one town to another with very little distance between the two. Of course, the Learjet 45XR has a range of nearly 2000 miles, so longer trips are available for Learjet 45 operators as well.

Heritage:

How many times have you heard someone say to another, "Look! There's a Learjet" when in fact it could have been almost any business jet? The name Learjet is known world-wide for the little business jet that is sleek, fast, futuristic, and classy. Much like the 'corvette' of the business jet world. It's not the biggest, nor the most expensive, but it has a name that is known by all!

What about a smaller jets like the Citation Mustang? The avioinics comes as standard package within FSX, and you easily fit everything with 2x 19 widescreens. I even dare saying you might finish building the thing in less than a few months unless you want it with all that "dashboard" eye candies;)

Well, I must admit --- if I weren't 3.5 years into my 737NG-800, I would be looking at building a citation X :)
I had an opportunity to visit the cockpit years ago at my local airport, and it was sweet!

As far as the complexity of the build, well it's not exactly simple. However, it is not as involved as a 738 either. Eaglesoft has a great citation X, works with FSX or FS2004.

Nope! That is no steering wheel.
