Hi all,
I've just built this B737 gear lever for Bob Reed and thought I would share the design for anyone who wants to copy it!

Wow,

Your'e a master! That is beautiful. Did you turn that handle yourself or did you use something that was available?

If the former, I keep thinking I need to add a couple metal working pieces of equipement to my shop. I have a pretty extensive woodworking shop but nothing for metal working (hobbiest only). I am wondering what some essentials might be. I keep thinking a small mill, lathe, and bandsaw for cutting metal but not sure.

Hi Scott,
I have a small chinese metal lathe and I am a machinist by trade. The handle is some 10mm & 6mm clear perspex superglued together then turned. The wheel holder is machined from solid 30mm pvc and painted. It screws on to the 14mm shaft so it can be fitted after the bracket is installed to the MIP. The clear perspex wheels are pretty quick and easy to make, I might add them to the product range!

Cheers, Gwyn

Well, I am sure it would be much less expensive for you to make and us to buy then it would be for someone like me to acquire equipment, learn how to use, make tons of mistakes, waste lots of time and material, etc......

Maybe thats the best route!

My gear handle, which used an 1/2 aluminum U channel for the handle broke where I drilled the handle to run the 1/4 pivot bolt through. So I have to rebuild it.

I like the internal design of yours Gwyn more than mine. With your permission I will borrow it.

I just copied this design today and i'm well pleased with the result, Thanks a million Gwyn. Got my first annunciators working on the mip too as i wired a battery circuit into the gear up/down led's and connected them to the micro switches.

Now all i need is the gear knob to crown it all. (its in the post)

Hello,

Iam looking for some measures for the 737 Gear leveler. Can someone post his measurements, that would be nice.
Thanks,
Markus

Any particular dimensions you need? Or all of them!

Hello Sean,

i need all of them. I have only pictures from the Opencockpits Gear leveler, it seems to as hard to built it on my own.
Thanks,
Markus

Hi Markus

It's not the easiest thing to measure, but here goes:

Diameter of wheel = 36mm
Thickness of wheel = 14mm

Length of thicker shaft attached to wheel = 27mm (from where it leaves the thinner shaft to the point it touches the circumference of the wheel.
Diameter of thicker shaft = 22mm

Length of main (thinner) shaft = 55mm from when it protrudes the MIP (68mm total length)
Diameter of main shaft = 20mm

Trigger is 22mm deep and is 30mm from MIP

If I've missed any, let me know.

Sean

if not, can you attach some please.
Thanks,
Markus

I do not need them all. These are just pictures Open cockpits Gear Leveller, it seems so hard to build yourself.

Aerosim will soon be supplying B737 gear lever handles aswell as full sets of B737 and B777 TQ handles. I already have the B777 Pitch & Trim molds completed and ready for sale, these are the first available anywhere I believe!

Can somebody supply a schematic drawing of the Engravity and/or OpenCockpits gear lever mechanics?

I've sofar all the materials and want to re-design my existing lever and replace it with the improved one. After redesign i can share the drawings here.

Thanks in advance,

Bas

Hi,

I have no schematic drawing, but on those pictures you can see my gear leveler.

http://gallery.therese-markus.net/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=149319&g2_serialNumber=1

The picture shows the mechanism we have designed to get the leveler pulled back via a feather automatically when it is released.

http://gallery.therese-markus.net/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=149321&g2_serialNumber=1

In this picture the smaller pipe is moved into the bigger one. The feather will be than moved into the smaller one and is secured with a nail (not professional, but it works).

http://gallery.therese-markus.net/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=149313&g2_serialNumber=1

I can also give you 2 short videos from the mechanism working.

The finished gear leveler:

Build into the OC MIP Panel:

I can send you also the original sized photos, if required.

If you are referring to the post by johnny.7389 then ignore him - he is a spammer and his post is a cut and paste from earlier ones by others. I have reported him
