Can anyone recommend the Elite COM/NAV Module AP4000

Thinking of building up a radio stack and wondered if anyone was using these modules from Elite? Are they any good?

No clue about the Elite
If you want to "build" I highly recommend the GoFlight remote kits combined with whatever Radio panels you like. Best bang for the Buck.

No offence, but I'm not big on the GoFlight modules. I don't like how they have single dials instead of the concentric style like on the Elite ones - but thanks anyway. I guess I should have mentioned that this is for my Cessna C172 sim first ;)

Are there any other options? I see that Simkits to a close to 'real' set but thay are hideously expensive, and the FI Collins-style aren't that cheap either. VRinsight do a stack, but it's a bit cheapo looking... Any others?

Hi Ed,

1) I do not work for GoFlight ...lol
2) The Kit HAS a concentric. (see my pic)
3) The main plus is that you can start with "Real" Cessna radio faceplates and adapt the kit behind. Com, Nav,Xpndr, Adf,
4) Each unit has two buttons and two leds that allow building a radio management panel at the same time, as they can be programmed (with a click) as ident for Nav, Markers, DME etc....

Yes, Open Cockpits. A pair of NAV heads runs $388 with shipping. Collins type.

Lots of options.

There is also FDS at over $300 a pop, and one other (who's name escapes me) selling for over $300 each.

Thanks for the ideas guys. The Flightlink equipment looks very nice. I'm definitely in the market for something that is close to 'real' as I can get.

I emailed Elite regarding their panels, but it seems that hey are not Vista64 compatible :mad: However, I have been contemplating going back to the 32-bit version anyway, as this is probably going to happen again int the future with other sim hardware, so maybe this will give me a kick. That's the weekend gone!

In the meantime I'll give the avionics some further thought...

Thanks for the heads up, they look very good. I've decided to go for the Elite modules now. Although they are quite expensive, I like that they are modular so that I can buy more of them when I can afford it. Unfortunately they only run on 32-bit systems, so I've spent the last two day reinstalling everything (literally! :(). I've gone for a Com, Nav, ADF and transponder module. This should get me up and running. DME is probably next on the list...

For us it will probably be Com / Nav - ADF - DME. For navigation excercises the transponder isn't that important, but don't tell Norwich Approach that!

Yeah, I'm beginning to think I should have got the DME instead of the transponder, but it won't be too far behind!

Have you ever thought of making 'replicas' of the simkits radio's, ov course you wont have all the features but theres nothing to stop you making a radio that is functioning for half the price of what they are asking and looks like theirs, build your own dual encoders, and copy their knobs and buttons, buy an interface that can control 7 bar segments and encoders, im sure it can be done!

I considered it for a while, although several factors convinced me to just buy some. Like, hardly seeing my wife for the last month while I built my 'pit ;), having something ready that I can use in time for my flying lessons and not having enough space/the right equimpent at home to do it.

Shame really, as I would have really enjoyed making some. Maybe next time! ;)
