I came across this link to a product that might be useful making back lighted panels. It is called Light Tape. I think it has great potential.
http://www.lighttape.co.uk/. See the photos where the tape is put around Plexiglass and it lights up the logo of a company.
Or it can be put on the MIP to light up the panel.

I actually have a huge supply of this type of material called EL wire, in 10 colors. You have to power it with an inverter, but it draws nearly no power and generates almost no heat. I bought 200 yards of each color for a project we were doing, but ended up using a different method of lighting. I have been thinking of trying it on my panels. If there was enough interest I would put up a web store and sell it to the simmers, but it had seemed to methat everyone was using other methods to backlight.

What inverter output voltage are required to use the tape?
Sounds like a great idea to sell it off eBay. What is the width you have?
