I am looking around for a 10.4" display to be used for my upper and lower EICAS displays and most of the ones available are the ones used for automobiles, which use a composite video input.
Has anyone hooked one of these up and could tell me if the image quality is worth it? Most if them have a resolution of 800 x 600 and I was wondering if it looks good enough.
Thanks for any help.

Hi, I have two 8" touchscreens from ebay (lilliput) for car pc use and they have the 15 pin VGA cable and look real nice at 1024 * 768.
I use one in the car at 800*600 and the other in the sim at 640*480 rotated 90 degrees (480*640?) for the FMC.
1024*768 is too small a font to use for my eyes.
So if you look for "PC" screens they should have a VGA plug, the DVD/TV tuner style screens are usually composite only.
Hope that helps
Andy
forgot to say that they both have the yellow "RCA" video input but the picture is blurred when using it on a pc.

I had several screens that used/use composite video and the quality was not very good especially when displaying script. I replaced them all in the end with 7"+ and 10"+ VGA input screens that can be purchased new on ebay from Hong Kong or Taiwan. I would not use composite video by choice.

I Bought a 10.2" LCD from eBay with a proper VGA connector it works perfectly rotated as a PM EICAS screen. Details below.

It comes unmounted so is actually better than one you might have to strip down. If you do go for one of these ask about the optional control panel (extra cost) you might need it to adjust the image.

Yes it's rather annoying. by the time you pay postage and VAT in the UK it's actually cheaper to buy it from Europe. Of course if you have a friend in the US who will send it over :p
Cheers
Joe.
