Hello :)
Ok I am working on an upgrade for the original Aerosoft MCP fo a friend, basically its a 3.4mm thick back illuminated lightplate that's self adhesive and you just stick it on the front of the original MCP fascia connect it to 5V and off you go.
The pics below are of the first prototype, im just working on its PCB then i can light it up for the first time:cool:
Its a shame to only build one of these so if there is any one else who has the same MCP and might be interested let me know.
Will update pics when i get her working

Good idea.
Many years ago FDS made for me a thin grey layover for the 737, but it was not backlighted.

I think it is a great piece of hardware, worked like a charm. Still have it.
Great for a generic sim or a 747/57/67 of course. Can avoid zillion hours building your own.
Maybe if you do it in grey too, it might revive the interest for that great MCP.

Your's look like a million!
the one I had was a simple very thin engraved sheet, nothing to compare with.
I love your idea, should help getting all these good MCP's out of the dust and back to service. Andrew sold quite a few!!

Hi Phil,
I've had my MCP since November 2002 and was disappointed when Andrew called it a day.
I'll wait until you post some shots of it backlit but provisionally, I'm interested. I'm impressed with the quality of the facsia.

Hi Ray
Andrew still stands behind his product, I had a little glitch 2 years ago and he sent me software and advice to solve it!!
As for Phils panels you can go for it. He made a few for me. Top notch.

Thanks Jack. It's reassuring to hear that Andrew is still available should a problem occur. Do you have a contact address for him please? Just for reference should it be required.
I'm sure Phil's panels will be fine. An indication of the price would be handy though. ;)

Okay,
I still need to figure out the price, im trying to gauge how many i would need to build to get a good idea of that, it works out cheaper and better to pool all the requests and make a small run of several pieces rather than doing one at once, this is a very difficult piece to make and a real challenge, but i love a challenge
Okay, so i have had a go at the back light, not perfect yet but close, its difficult infact impossable to get even light spread when the panel is only 2mm thick and that includes PCB, but Im going to try again using 3mm, should even the light spread better and jiggle the led positions a bit, but not bad for a first attempt :)
Next job is to make the adhesive layer, in the pics below the panel itself is just resting on there, but once it has its adhesive layer installed it will overcome most of the light bleed through around the edges

Hi Phil,
For a first attempt that looks pretty good. Fully understand the cost issue. Hopefully more people will be attracted to it with a finished product.
Have you posted anywhere else? AvSim, SimFlight and FlightSim are three obvious places with plenty of enthusiasts.

Hi Phil,
I see you're NE of Preston. Not too far. I'm tied up for the next two weekends (visiting Pete Dowson next weekend and family commitment 25/26 July) but should be free 1-2 August. Working full-time restricts me to weekends. Prefer Saturday if that's OK with you.
PM me with details when you're able.

Very well done job Phil, looks amazing.
Fideling myself with backlighting of the old FDS MCP panel.
I used 5mm and 3mm leds. I see that the smt leds doing much better job.
See if you can add another smt led where the light not spreading evenly.
I thing this should do the work for you.
Thanks for sharing,
Ran.
