How to remove monitor case?

For those of you who have removed their monitor cases, how did you do it?

I have an 18.5" LCD screen and want to remove the case, but there are no screws. Do I have to prise it apart and destruct it in the process?

Any advice appreciated. It's an LG Flatron W1943.

For those of you who have removed their monitor cases, how did you do it?
Well I only hace experience with Samsung flatscreens, but it is very easy:

The case is made from a front and a back cover. You need to find the plastic fasteners, normally clip type between these two shells. I took screwdrivers (yes you might need more then one) to get them apart, it takes some time to find the right force angle and position.


I have an 18.5" LCD screen and want to remove the case, but there are no screws. Do I have to prise it apart and destruct it in the process?
As I desribed above none of the shells is cracked, of course you might scratch the case with the screwdrivers a bit but with a bit of training it is no problem anymore (had to dismantle three of them and only the first one is a little bit scratched.

Be aware that you might not be able to lift off any of the shells immediately, look for cables that might be glued or otherwise mounted to the cover, it might be neccessary to remove them first.

Wish I had more pics to show you, here is the back side of the first one I did. Scary to rip apart a perfect brand new monitor, it was a $400 monitor at the time.

Notice I made a Lexan plate to mount the electronics and used shrink tube around the buttons for protection.

It came apart easier than I thought once I got it started. I did a practice run on an old 15" TFT first! :-?

What initially confused me was that there were no visible 'detents' where you might insert a screwdriver, and the front and back panels were tightly fitted together.

What I ended up doing was to carefully grab the front bezel, along the top of the screen, on the underside (where it touches the screen) and pull hard enough to get the first 'clips' to snap apart. Once it was started, the remaining clips around all four sides were easily prised apart.
