My fellow pilots,

Surely, some of you have begun to transition to Windows 7 Operating System (W7 OS) (RC or Final version) and likely you've discovered that some of your hardware is not working. Whether it is video cards, sound cards, Input/Output (IO) cards (for your simulator) or joystick controllers, you likely had to look for updated drivers or find a work-around.

Therefore, I enlist you to help us all out by listing which piece of hardware you had to find new drivers for and if the problem is solved or it still remains an issue for you. If we could list these in a small format, it will simplify the process for someone else if they're having the same problem(s) you are having or vice-versa.

Here is how I envision a listing:

Manufacture/Item: Creative Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card

Problem (Simple Description): Microphone input/output is garbled when using it for recording or in a multiplayer environment.

Resolution: Please choose one (Fixed), (Unresolved), (Unfixable)-this one means you exhausted all hope of fixing the problem after trying a great deal to fix it.

Recommendation: (for example) go to a website to find updated drivers or contact me. In other words, provide the actual “How To” of your method for fixing this. If the fix is long or lengthy, please state request PM from me (this will save MyCockpit server space for sure and helps keep the postings shorter; it is really hard to read a lot of postings when they don’t relate to your problem, but you read them out of respect for fellow pilots).

Finally, this is about solving Windows 7 Hardware Issues that relate to Flight Simulation, so try to stay within that realm please…

Thank you

John

GoFlight modules not working with FSX Gold and Win7 Ultimate.

Manufacture/Item: GoFlight MCP and LGT Modules

Problem: Will not work in FSX with Win7 - No lights or functionality, Config editor does work but does not fix issue

Resolution: (Workaround) Open the GF-Config folder and find the file GFdevFSX.exe file. Now create a shortcut and place it on your desktop. Next, and this is very important, before you start FSX use the shortcut you just created. This will start the Bridge program and your modules will light up and run.

Recommendation: GoFlight will need to figure out why (beyond UAC) this bridge does not auto-execute in Win7.

Hi there,

Manufacture/Item:
VRInsight/ ProPit panel
Problem:
The USB device is not recognized by the OS, in other words; the "serialFP2" software works.... the USB driver does not.

Resolution (Fixed, Unresolved, Unfixable):
Unresolved
Recommendation:
This must be a driver issue !! I had many problems to get the hardware (USB) working in VISTA_64_ultimate but got it finally working. Have not been able to get it working with Win7_home-premium_64 up untill now

* It looks like Win7 is even less "forgiving" in rights issues than Vista. Vista's hardest part was to get things "cleared". Usually proceding with "supervisor rights" would solve the problem.

The moment I solve an issue, I will let you all know !!
Kind regards, Nico

At present I am using Windows 7 64bit version and I have not any issue related to incompatibility of usb device.
If you face problem regarding USB device that means your USB drivers is not working properly. You need to update it.

I am using win7 64bit, ProPit , cdu I, goflight mcpro all running perfect no problem. you only need to do one thing, any program you start just click right mouse and run it as administrator, even though i set the icons to run as admin some times it does not, so just run all in admin mode and it will work just fine.

I'm using the Vrinsight MCP Combo with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and I had no problems installing. Wish I could give you some pointers but I didn't have to do anything special to make it work. Don't give up, if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for keeping this thread going. There has already been some great information posted, but let's keep these help tips coming. And, by using the little format for posting, it makes it so much easier when searching for particular issues; the format works like keywords for search engines.

Here is the format again:

Again, please keep posting those issues here as they do help out a lot...

Hi there,
My problems running VRInsight Propit and its software still remain.
Sometimes it works other times it does not. I hate critical soft/hardware configurations.
The February 2009 release of the sotware and USB driver even crashes my OS, blue screen... memory dump etc.
* I am running Win7_home premium_64 Dutch language.. maybe the language version interferes !?!?*

I have another issue;
I am using Saitek hardware, 4 radio's 1 Multipanel and 1 Switchbox.
The switchbox causes problems with multiple radio panels in Win7_64.

Manufacture/Item:
Saitek

Problem:
Switchbox driver interferes with the radio's if radio panel is selected NAV or COM.
If the radio panels are selected ADF, DME or transponder there are no issues.
It looks like the switchbox driver uses the/some same adresses for switches as the radio panels !!

Resolution (Fixed, Unresolved, Unfixable):
Unresolved

Recommendation:
Use WideView for outside vieuw on Win7 and run FSX and hardware on a Win XP machine... it solved my problems with the VRInsight ProPit also.

No, I think it is the serial/USB driver, for the FTDI chipset in the devices. On my Win7 64-bit system the driver supplied by VRInsight works, provided the PC boots up, but often causes a Blue Screen during boot-up. I've uninstalled it for the time being. There are more recent drivers on

http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm

and I've downloaded a selection but I've not had time yet to work out which ones should be used - VCP or D2XX. I'll not be looking till next week now.

I have written to VRInsight about this, but I've not heard back from them yet.

Pete

Thank you for your quick replay Pete.
I tried the last available driver/software Oct-2009 with not not the wanted results in Win7 (no more blue screens btw).
The software/driver reacts instable on my system wich btw is just plain Win7.. all updates, FSX_Gold edition, FS_Global_2008, Ultimate Terrain-X_Europe, registered copy of FSUIPC and WideFS, registered copy WideView, Saitek drivers and software, Matrox TH2G software/driver and of course VRInsight ProPit SerialFP2... nothing more, nothing less.

My current WideVieuw setup works fine to me.......

Kindest regards and Merry Xmas,
Nico

Hi,
when printing a flight plan my windows 7 crashes when SFX is running.
It is a Samsung 315 laser printer.
The system is a high spec one from Alpine and is only 3 months old and has bags of everything in terms of power etc.
Any ideas welcome please.

Regards

David

Here is an update about the problems I had with the Saitek hardware as switch and radio panels.
It seems not to be a Win7 issue but a glitch in the new (Win7 ready) software from Saitek.
The Saitek installer adds a line in the FSX.cfg
At "TRHUSTED SOFTWARE" a double line is added !! It calls on FSX to execute the Saitek-panel-installer.exe
However the Saitek installer did the same for the FS9-panel-installer, so FSX tries to execute both panel installers !!!

Manufacture/Item:
Saitek/ switch, radio and Autopilot

Problem:
Panels are interfering with one another if more (radio) panels are used

Resolution (Fixed, Unresolved, Unfixable):
Fixed

Recommendation:
Delete a line in the FSX.cfg
>> C:\Program Files (x86)\Saitek\Pro Flight Panels\SaiPanelsFS9.exe.ucwkhcuheklceboatbniubcurtnaqilulbqnwool=1 <<

Sorry mr Gates.... not your fault this time
