Hi all

I have been reading about this ATI 5850 card and have a few questions.

1. Someone mentioned in a posting that an extra box is required which bumps up the cost. Anyone aware of this?

2. Does that card have three outputs on the back?

3. If they are Digital outputs can converters to VGA be used

4. PCI-e 2. Is this a different type of socket to the original?

Just wanna be sure before I splurge on it.

Best regards
Richard

I am also looking into Eyefinity and will answer some of your question. Also the best site to visit is www.widescreengamingforum.com and read the Eyefinity section.

I have read that it has 4 outputs on card. 1-HDMI, 1-Display Port, 2-DVI. You can use any 2 of the outputs at one time with no problems. If going for 3 displays as one large display you have to use the Display Port and any 2 of the other 3 outputs. If none of your monitors has a Display Port input you will have to use a ACTIVE Display Port to DVI converter. These run around $100.00. Dell.com is where most people on widescreengaming seem to be getting them from. A passive converter will not work.

I can't answer questions 3 or 4.

I would like to replace my TH2G with Eyefinity but with Nvidia releasing a new card soon I will wait.

I have the ATI 5850 and as mentioned before I did have to buy the $100 display port to DVI adapter. I tried a $20 passive adapter and it did not work.
Also had to upgrade my PSU from a 530w to a 900w unit. I haven't tried converting back to VGA but I think it would work.

But it works great, a good improvement over my nvidia 9800gtx.
