Anyone here had any success with, or know of anyone who has, using a real altimeter in a sim? Mike Powell's new book mentions the possibility and gives some useful information, but it is not fully instructional. This is way-out-in front research for me. I hope to complete some modules soon and post (mag switches, flap switch, gear lever). So far, I just have a growing pile of parts.

Ooh, I'd like to know that. But is buying a real altimeter not far more expansive than buying a special one for your sim?

If you buy a new altimeter you'd likely spend more than the rest of your sim investment (depending of course, like you're not the guy that spent one-half million on your sim). But, I've seen working used ones on eBay at reasonable prices. One of those and a air vaccum transducer and some other appropriate gear, and theoretically, it should work. SimKits doesn't sell kits anymore from what I can see, and I can't find a reasonably priced seller of sim altimeters (I think $500++ to $700++ is a bit much).
