I'm looking in to building the infamous N1 and Speed Ref selectors for my 737 MIP that will be interfaced using a FlyEngravity MIP Board. The N1 & SPD Ref selectors are made up of an encoder and either a 4-way or 7-way switch depending on which one.

Is there anyone on the market that sells this sort of switch ready assembled?

Alternatively, is there anyone that sells the knobs so that I could try and build my own?

If your sending a set to the UK for Ed, pop another set in the same envelope and let me know how much they are. I'm sure Ed won't mind popping mine in the post for me ;) [please]

Edit: the illuminated one's please.

Supplementary question - what type of encoder do I need for these switches and where to obtain them in the the UK?.

Thanks

Merry Christmas to you too Dave - and to all! :D

PM sent with my address.

Very good question Ralph, one I was going to ask myself. I'd also like to know what switch to use as well. I think the N1 is a 4-way switch and the Spd Ref a 7-way. I use Farnell the most for electronic components. I'll see what they've got.

I remember seeing a tutorial on the FlyEngravity site explaning how to make one, but I can't find it right now. I'll try and dig it out...

Edit> Found it. It was on the CPFlight website in the MIP board manual:

http://www.cpflight.com/sito/downloads/mip737mi105.pdf

Looks like they used a C&K 45 deg switch. I'll try and find a UK supplier. No mention of the encoder.

My apologies Stef, you are right the info is in the manual. I must have had a corrupt file as I couldn't see that info in mine. Just re-downloaded and all is good.

Thanks again.

Now to find a UK supplier...

no problem ;-)

farnell, digi-key, mouser all have the alps ec11 in stock. havent checked for the others alps encoders.

Some of the bourns are in stock too.

Farnell ships single units and i believe they are in the UK also.

Nice one Stef. Yes Farnell are in the uk and ship single units. They have the EC-11 here:

http://uk.farnell.com/alps/ec11b15242/encoder-rotary-11mm/dp/1191733

Unfortunately they do not have the 45 deg switches. Only 30 deg switches like these:

http://uk.farnell.com/c-k/a20615rncq/switch-2-pole-6-pos/dp/9575260

Do you have any suggestions for a supplier in the UK? I could always get a couple from you guys if you still sell them?

If you guys are interested I've already got some of Dave's knobs, they're very nice too. :-D You can buy them plain or painted as shown here.

I've attached a few pics to give you some idea of the range.

Cheers
Joe.

Hi Spiro, unfortunately I can't help you directly, but it may be worth checking out his thread as the guys there might be able to offer some help:

Still no joy finding a UK supplier for the 45 deg switch. DigiKey have them, but I don't think they ship to the UK?
