After camping on this forum for quite some time,
I started this weekend with beginning of my first A320 throttle.

measurements: rainpipe PVC diam. 125 length 115 mm
the small discs inside MDF 9mm. diam. 60 mm.
the knobs diam. 30 mm. (for full 270 gr. travel)
the dustcover: laminated paper in 24x1 mm. under the outer plate.

Tnx for the reactions.
I'll give some more clarification about the outer plate.
My first attempt broke, and with the second I had the problem that when
you (cold) bend the pvc, the thin long part "twist" because it is not
symetric where the dustcover slot is milled away. (sorry for my bad english)

what worked was making it like this:
http://flatlandpilots.nl/coppermine/albums/userpics/10002/normal_throttle_pvc_plaat1.jpg
(the blue is 1 mm. deep, and milled away first)
after warming it up in the oven it bended really easy, after glueing I cutted the
bars away with a dremel.

This looks great! I would love to see any drawings you have of this. I am building an A320 as well and have drooled over Westozy's throttle but I can't justify the cost. Making my own has been difficult, so far I am on my second attempt that has its own problems. My cnc setup works very well, I started with some simple panels like flaps and speedbrakes then moved on to others. I am currently working on the glare and engine start panel. Where did you get the dimensions for your design?

l. Where did you get the dimensions for your design?

Because my space in my pit is limited,
and the rainpipe was looking to me ;)
I thought diam 125 mm. fitted just right for me.

I started in the middle 115 mm. is the length I needed
to have the 3 indication panels.

now I'm in the middle of figuring out how to mill the text,
(white and yellow :?:) with white and amber leds :?:,
and bend it afterwards :shock:, making it of 3 thin layers is what I'm trying now.

@Buddym if you pm me you emailaddress I can send you the Solidworks or dxf files.
*Solidworks/Mastercam/Mach3 that really works*

After painting:

I'm still thinking how to engrave white and yellow in one thin coverplate.
Is it possible to fill in the engraving with translucent yellow ink/paint afterwards ?
or is making it of 2 parts (a white an a yellow one) the only way to go ?

Hi flatland. This is looking great. Regarding the painting, I have filled engraved letters with different colors and it looks fine.

What do your throttle levers look like? I ahve drawn some and cut them out, I'll try to attach here to show them. I can also provide dxf file or nc files if you like. The finished product is pretty good, might go well wth your throttle housing.

BTW, would it be possible to get those drawings sent again?

Thanks, Buddy

Absolute fantastic work, brilliant.....put me on your waiting list if you want to sell this.....

Just how much does West Ozy's A320 cost? Just out of curiosity......

Alex......

I was hoping to see a tutorial based on this. (grin) I would love to have a nice throttle unit. I am attempting my second go at it this weekend.

At the moment i'm trying to backlight my OC mcdu,
I'll post more photo's of the trottle when I made some progress on it.
(last week I milled the text too deep, so have to try better ;) )

First I used an old joystick to connect it to the sim,
now the analog inputs of an OC Expansion card

This is what I use now:

Var 0202, name Lever_L, Link IOCARD_ANALOGIC, Input 2, PosL 1, PosC 128, PosR 255
{
&lever1 = &Lever_L * 65
}
Var 0201, name Lever_R, Link IOCARD_ANALOGIC, Input 1, PosL 1, PosC 128, PosR 255
{
&lever2 = &Lever_R * 65
}
Var 0205, name lever1, Link FSUIPC_OUT, Offset $089A, Length 2
Var 0206, name lever2, Link FSUIPC_OUT, Offset $0932, Length 2

time to think about getting in reverse.

The textplates finaly came to an acceptable quality after 3 times.
milling height is still a problem for me when milling text.
I now know that sometimes 0.02 mm. is the difference between
seeing thru a layer or not. And I'm thinking about using red primer ;)
Something to remember: when using 100degr leds with only 4 mm. distance
one led each 12 mm. is enough to avoid dark spots.

Backlight works now, it's time for the "handles"
I must admit the black kit is a little "rude" :oops:

Great work Martjin, very neat. I have a spare pare of A320 lever handles in the workshop somewhere complete with buttons. I made them ages ago for someone never paid for them. I would post them to you in the Netherlands for AUD$60.00 + postage. You probably want to make your own seeing as your own work is fantastic but the offer is there if you want them! They are raw PVC and will need painting after fitting BTW!

Cheers Gwyn
