Hi Spiro,
How are you drawing your templates, because I am struggling to find something you can print onto multiple pieces of paper as my CAD program will not print to scale nor print at all.
Looking closely at A320 panels, I would say that 5mm or 6mm is the perfect thickness for panels, remembering to sand the cut outs of the panels smoothly and round them off because the A320 panels are very smooth and rounded. I would spray them with a primer then spray them with the colour after this process, I wouldn't paint as you may see brush stroke marks, unless you prime with paint then sand then spray.
MDF is the best for sanding in terms of ease as harsh sandpaper can often produce nice rounded and smooth edges, other than that I guess that ply wood would be the next best thing but would take some effort to sand, but both should give you good results, avoid chipboard if you can. In my opinion aluminium or acrylic would not be suitable as this would not give you the rounded edges of your cut-outs unless you were to mould your acrylic over a former or fabricate aluminium over a former which would take forever, so wood is definitely best choice, again in my opinion I would go for 5-6mm mdf, my Cessna mip is made from this and is perfect.....
Let me know if you have any ideas for printing the MIP as a template, I'm running out of Idea's, unless I cutup my mates poster (and he wont be happy lol)....
Kind Regards Spiro.

Here is what I have drawn up from scratch to scale, printing is just the problem......hmmmm

I think my first mip panel was about 6mm and it warped badly in the summer heat. Just something to think about Spiro.

Very valid point Steve, totally forgot about your much warmer climate!
Ps...managed to get my A320 image 'printable' my image was scaled at 15 meters wide instead of 150cm wide.....oops lol

Alex, have you tried Poster Razor, it lets you print stuff on multiple sheets. http://sourceforge.net/projects/posterazor/

Hi, indeed I have, there is also another product for poster printing called 'Posteriza' which is the same!

I suggest you use 6mm PVC sheet, I use this making MIPs for customers. It's easy and clean to machine, no MDF dust and it is easy to paint. Quite a lot stronger than MDF too!

Alex - I might be able to help you out here. I have a full version of Sketchup so I can import .dxf's then import them to Layout which can export in full scale to Acrobat. From there I can print the full size tiled across many sheets which you can then tape together. I can get you a .pdf of those tiled pages and send it to you and you can print it out. I haven't actually done this yet but I'm more than happy to give it a go so you can!

Hi guys,
Are you using panels of the same or close to the dimensions of the panels in the A320 paneles.zip file? If so I am making a batch of glare panels that I would be happy to share with you. The only thing is that the current panels I am cutting are cut to use the rectangular LED pushbuttons from Mountain Switch that OpenCockpits uses on the ones they sell. I am going to be making the glare wings and the rest of the pedestal panels soon, and sooner or later the overhead. I realize that mine wont be exactly like the real ones, but those switches are easy to get and inexpensive. These photos are not very good, thecamera is junk, but the panels look great in person.

Thanks guys for all the info
i understand 6mm thikness the bad thing is that i live on a greek island
and there are no laser cutters so i can go for PVC or aluminum
as shown in my photos i made the bace of stell and i have decided to go with wood
as there is no one here that can do that kind of work
i can find lost of PVC and plexiglass ,aluminoume but no cnc or lazer cuter here
only if i go to athens but it is far away
so i found a woodmaker here that will like to help out but we only have 4mm 8mm
plywood sheets no mdf avalibel so that is upsetting:sad::sad::sad::sad:
i would really like PVC lacer cut
i would keep in mind about the summer heat here would 6mm bend even if i prime and paint with a good coloure??
as for my mip bace i have made i am really thinking of re starting with wood
because as i continue to build i see that i have made mistaks:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
and it is too big so i am thinking of going with wood
thanks to every one for the help

can the PVC be cut with a jigsaw?
thanks!

My question is; if you are cutting PVC without a 'machine' (like the majority of us builders) then how easy is pvc to cut with the basic home tools like a jigsaw etc, I remember acrylic was a delicate substance to cut and used a coping saw so that I could control the pressure and the cut.

can the PVC be cut with a jigsaw?
I think that anything can be cut with a jigsaw, just depends on the speed at which you cut and the cutting blade that you use!

Ok Guys
hers another one of those weard qestions of mine:D
i finally getting the mip cut out of 6mm ply wood it mite be ready tommoro
but here is what i am trying to think the mip is just a cover witch will cover the monitors
BUT know that i am building my gear lever thanks to Buddym and is helpfull tutorial
sence the 6mm plywood is just to cover up and not hold any weight, what do for the bace of gear lever and auto brakes switches????
what i mean and believe is that first on the mip STUCKTURE we get owr monitos set up and gear lever, auto brake switches nice and stedy and then the 6mm plywood mip just covers all of that
what i need is ideas for how to get gearlever and brake switches in place and stedy before i cover them up:roll::roll:
thanks spiro

spiro, i will try to send you a few photos of my MIP. My monitors are mounted on plywood panels that are installed vertically. The monitors are mounted using 4 screws in the holes that are used to wall mount them. Since the plywood panel goes across the entire frame of each MIP section, I used the angle brackets to screw the gear lever to the plywood panel.

Thanks Buddym
photos would help alot, i was thinking of putting a pice of ply wood across the hole mip too but if so the monitors would be
about 2 cm fether out then the ply wood so when placing the mip cover panels there will be a big gap for the gear lever and swithches
thats were i get stuck
what i am aming to do is get monitors gearlever brake switches across all the mip in one straight line for no gaps when the covers get placed on
do you understand what i am trinig to explane
i might not be explaining right bear with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
