Thats a million dollar question.

An on-line colour picker can determine the colour code of software, I have picked the FCU of 3 companies and got this:

CP Flight = RGB 48, 66, 80
FDS = RGB 141, 146, 149
COCKPITSONIC = RGB 57, 80, 98 TO 48, 67, 84

Hi,

A long time ago I read somewhere that the colours for Airbus should be RAL 5017 (German name Verkehrsblau) for the structure, and RAL 5014 (Taubenblau) for the panels. If I remember well, that is the colour Hispapanels are using.

(Sorry, don't know the RGB values for these; but a RAL table is available somewhere on the Internet...)

That's great, I can convert these to RGB for you now!

Hey Spiro,

I would not get too hung up over the colour, the thing with airbus is that they changed the entire colour of the flightdeck, i dont know exactly when, the older a320 like the original winglet-less -100 series ones were a lighter blue colour, when the A330 and A340 came into service there decks were a much darker colour and the A320 followed soon after.

Have a look at any pic on jetphotos.net and instantly you will see how the FCU/EFIS is a darker colour than the glare wings.

Below is a pic to highlite the difference, the panel on the left is the flight deck door lock panel made in 2004 from a -200 aircraft, the panel on the right is a glare wing panel from an original -100 series aircraft

I also hear RAL7031 is a close match, Alex if you can do the honour of converting it, but i have not tried this myself :)

Phil.....Just off the question a bit I know, but are you going to start producing any A320 panels for the simvionics website?

Kind Regards.

Hmm, that looks like the one on the left for me, so RAL7031 for newer aircraft and RAL5014 for the older aircraft :)

That is excellent news, now the other sim part manufacturers really have something to worry about!

You must admit there is a massive market now for the A320, its VERY popular....very 2010 i'm thinking.....

Check out darren sugdens website...amazing: http://www.sugden.karoo.net/page12.html

Are you from USA? I found something in the Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAL_%28color_space_system%29

From there I found the distributor of RAL charts for north america: https://www.dorncolor.com/RAL.aspx

I hope that helps.

Satin is between a Matt and a Gloss, not shiny but not matt, just inbetween! It's a nice finish. Matt is best, Gloss is a no no with panels!

RGB value does not really apply to paints because RGB is additive colour system and paints and pigments are all subtractive substances (apart from luminescent ones.)

Other popular colour systems are Pantone and NCS - there are conversion tables from RAL.
I have been involved in a lot of colour work at my previous working place - I still have a spectrophotometer here so if you need a spectral diagram of specific paint - you are welcome! :-)

A lot of "home improvement" stores and car paint shops can mix paint against your sample - will this be of any help?

This is a good thread.... I think we need to develop a chart for the A320 with all of the various colors used in the cockpit. I am ready to paint my production glare panels and will doing pedestal panels next.

Hi,

What are you using 5017 on?

I am assuming that 5017 is a really vibrant blue colour and only used 'features' on interiors.....

Panel wise, you need 7031, in Matt.

Are you sure your paint in not Satin instead of Gloss, Satin is a mix between the two with 'less' of a shine!

What are you painting?

Cheers,

Alex

---------------------------------------------------------------

Sand down everything that you have painted, and apply a matt white coat. Then re-paint...This should do the trick.

You may be able to get an electric sander and just remove what you have painted without having to apply a white coat.

hi Alex
i am painting my pedistal and the side stick bace and was thinking of painting the mip frame ral5017
my panels are RAL7013
I first painted my pedistal 7013 but notict that the airbus has 2 colours,it was nice with the 7013 but looked more like a 737 so i whanted to make it like the real ones
i was looking at lots of photos both coloures are matt
not saten
i also noticet that the dark blue in the real a320 to me looks more like navey blue and not 5017(traffic light blue) now i am not shore it might be because it is darker in a cockpit then out in my yard so once in it place it will be darker

Hi Guys!

I think both of you made mistake in reading colour code from the chart. If I know right colour for panels glare, pedestal and overhead is RAL 5024 mat. Last weekend I was flying brand new A320 wizzair and had opportunity to have a look inside the cockpit and for sure this is the right colour. By the way this is colour I am using for my panels. This is link to very good shop for aerosol paints: http://www.thelayup.com/premium.html and colour I am using is DARK GREY BLUE. Do not look at what ever is displayed on the website as these colours are far away from reality. I had to test at least 20 different cans before I found best one.

hi Skalarki
yes i will agree with you i painted the pedistal stand and side stick stand witch is a diffrent colour from the panels
a dark blue
i used RAL5017 and the guy made an error and made the paint gloss!!!!!!!!
it looks like a fishing boat!!!!!!
any way will try to fix it up today
but 5017 guys is with no way the colour of the frame(pedistal, side stick bace, mip frame)
it is very light blue nothing like the real a320 not even with the light turnd off!!!!!
the most realistic i find is from FDS the full cockpit but can not find what code that colour is!!!!!
it looks more like navy blue or blue black
as for the panels 7031 is the one for me
Skalarki we will talk soon love your products
kind regards spiro
