Good Afternoon!

First off, let me say that iv'e been around for a while and actually started with a CRJ project a couple years back. I ended up scraping that one since I had to move to Western Canada (CYYC). In the mean time, I was searching and reading about builders projects, products, etc. I've came to the conclusion that I am ready to construct my cockpit in the next coming weeks since Iv'e settled down here and will be at this location for long time to come.

I have a decent sized room for this project. It measures 12'X14' with a nice big built in closet which im thinking to use as my mount for the visuals. Iv'e been looking at various Aircraft and came to the decision that the CRJ wasn't a great platform to start out with. I want to go with somthing with availible parts and go with a cockpit that other builders are already constructing. This allows us to learn and teach eachother as well I could get advise from various resources. I am a Systems Consultant for an I.T company so I can get my hands on alot of new technology. (Which should be exciting)

In the mean time I am chooseing between the following platforms:
- 777
- 747
- 767

I will decide on the availability of measurements and/or documents about the certian model. The more I get of a specific aircraft the more likely I will build it. I love Longhaul aircraft. It's what I see myself doing on a Friday night (all night) flying from EGLL-VHHH ;) Although the Mrs. may say otherwise haha.

Anyway, If any of you have some valuable info about measurements to help get me started building with MDF and materials. Let me know, It would be appreciated.

Thank you all, happy flying!

Tino~:)

Hello Tino

I was through the same "fight" for three of years ago.

After approx. one year of research, I ended up with B767 from Level-D (http://www.leveldsim.com/sevensix_home.asp).

The main reason was ease of interfacing using hardware from Opencockpits (http://www.opencockpits.com/), SIOC and Lekseecon (http://www.lekseecon.nl) utilizing the SDK from Level-D. Nearly all Cockpit systems are fully simulated.

At the negative side and at that time, very few if any made panels, knobs etc. for B767, but with my low budget approach that suited me well – I got an argument to build a CNC unit which I never regret. It's a great tool and if you look around at Mycockpit site you'll see an increasing numbers of CNC capable builders.

Today you’ll have the option to buy panels from a few vendors, among them our famous Phil744 (http://www.simvionics.co.uk/) who makes some really high quality products at an affordable price.

BTW – I think Phil is about to change heading towards a 767/757.
Do we soon see a new nick Phil767 ;-)

Concerning measurements I believe we have most of the major numbers, but they are not structured any place.
Over at the B767 group (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/b767homecockpitbuilders/)at Yahoo we focus on this nice bird.

Good luck with your selection whatever it will be.

All this is just my opinion.

Thank you for your kind and informative post! I joined on the cockpit builders group. Hope to get more info there and learn some things as I already do here.

Happy flying!
