Picked up a 40" wood lathe today from a guy who has a whole shed full of tools that he wants to get rid of. Cost me $50 and came with cutting tools, not bad eh? He has a joiner that I'm thinking of getting for $30 more, so I can be making some accurate stuff.
I'm thinking of trying to make some throttle knobs for my 747 TQ project that I'm starting. IF anybody needs anything, let me know, I can maybe make small trim wheels or something, but I need some practice.

looks like a nice piece of kit. i have my own turning lathe, and although i bought a book to help me, i am still useless! But i guess, if you learn well enough, you should get good results. i recon it will be tough to replicate the handle 4 times, unless you have precision vernier callipers to measure! And i never thought of a trim wheel!

Good luck,

Jordan

Looks like that will come in quite handy. There is a ton of round things you can turn with that (for making custom control sections). Sometimes luck plays a big part in this hobby too.. :)

Well after a day of messing around on the lathe and accidentally making a nice looking candle holder, I decided to try to make the throttle knobs, this is how they turned out. There was 5 different variations to them, but let me know what you think and which one is the better one. I'll have to seal and paint them.
