My understanding is that proflight simulator is nothing more than Flightgear. Don't give them any of your money.

Look at the screenshots on the Proflight simulator page, and compare to these at Flightgear:

http://www.flightgear.org/Gallery-v2.0/target23.html
http://www.flightgear.org/Gallery-v2.0/target13.html

And you've just got to make sure you see this one on the ProFlight page: (scroll towards the bottom - they even included a screenshot with the FlighGear border displayed! )

Looks like you are right. I have never heard of flight gear, but their wikipedia entry even has the same graphic that proflightsimulator is using. Pretty cheeky to even use the same darn screenshot!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlightGear

So it is available for free from flight gear!

Anyone used it?

After reading the whole page, I was sold and thought this was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Then I thought: "This is too good to be true." Caution hit the air. We all know what MS and Steve Austin had to go through to make their products and too keep them alive.

Here comes someone, from out of the blue and has the latest, greatest Flight Sim.

Their website home page is quite impressive........

Definitely a need for some caution. BUT..... who knows, this magically MAY be "The greatest" thing to our hobby. Only time will tell...... :)

Just my 2 cents worth..... :)

Ha ha ha ha ha FAIL. (That's to the Pro Flight Simulator people, not to anyone on this thread of course!)

But actually they're completely within their rights to do this. FlightGear is GPL'd, so provided they make the source available to you on demand at-least, they can take it and sell it. What you're paying for is the nice DVD and packaging.

To suggest that FlightGear blows MSFS out of the water, though... laughable. It's come a long way in its time and perhaps one day it'll rival the best in terms of features and third-party support, but right now it's a poor cousin.
