Overpriced?

I am just asking if you think these Spitfire gauges on this website are overpriced or not?

Classic military is not my field Jack - But I would say that a lot of these instruments are in very nice, original and in some cases new/unused condition.

I would imagine that they made an awful lot of some of these items, but suppose that they are quite rare now.

As such, I would say that that the prices they are asking were very reasonable, particularly when compared to the prices 737 original or replicas go for.

Some great airframe bits for sim building as well.

I'd say they are a good price. Look at it this way, how many spitfires are there in this world today? Exactly, very little.

So to own some pieces of the cockpit (ie gauges) for peanuts is a great way of owning some vintage UK aviation history.

Look at it this way, they will only go up in value (not down).

It's not as if the spitfire is still in production. I have seen a mock up of the spitfire MIP loaded with fake gauges in New Zealand, and that went for something like £1500 and that wasn't even real!

So, id say there prices are good!

In that case, I am very excited.

I have a large amount of these original Smiths Gauges at home, and some are identical to the ones sold on that website.

Well all I can say, is put them on ebay with 'spitfire' key words and I am sure you will get good interest. Its all down to what people are willing to pay for them at the end of the day.

Personally, selling in January is a no-goer because people are skint, so put them on mid february or something!

Hmmm. I would like them verified first though. Reason is, some look EXACTLY the same but have a few very minor differences. For example, everything may be the same, the three yellow circles, scale, needle etc... But then it will be MPH instead of Knots.

Maybe you have export version gauges... I'm pretty sure they exported them to various countries so that's another possibility.

Nope. Definitely Smiths made in England. and I bought them from England. Only possibility is that they circulated around then back to this coutnry somehow.

Just my 2 cents worth. Those are real gauges!! The replica (fake) gauges are going for 6 times that much, even more than some of the original gauges used in acutal aircraft. It is really getting out of hand. They are probably well worth it if you can get them working in our environment.
