Hello everybody
I will buy soon a new PC
in my home cockpit I have installed the OpenCockpits CDU that as everybody knows needs a tv-out (s-video) input
My question is this:
today all the new graphic cards have not the tv-out connection
so what solution do you suggest???

1.using an adapter DVI to VGA and then VGA to S-VIDEO
2.install 2 graphic cards on board (1 new for the main screen of flight simulator and one old (the one I'm using now) for the CDU)
3.any other solutions????

thanks a lot

Hi Giacomo

1. At least Apple has a (cheap) DVI to s-video adapter. I can't think of any reason why it should not work with PC's...
2. Check that your motherboard has the necessary slots to accomodate both cards if you decide go this way.

1.I Sew it and I was thinking the same It's just a connector so it should work fine
2.there could be any conflict between the two cards?????

2. I'm running two Nvidia cards on the same computer and no conflicts. The motherboard has two PCIe x16 slots but no SLI support (not needed anyway to just run instrument panels on three or four displays).

Thank you
I bought the apple adapter but even if the seller told me it has not chip inside (like the old ones) it does not work ...my nvidia card recognizes the tv but I have no image on the screen

I tried another adapter (VGA to Svideo) but..unfortunatly nothing to do.....if I set the refresh at 56Hz I only see something black and withe....steady but not like if I'd connect it directly to the s-video port of the card!!!!
Any Idea????
do you think that adding an 75 ohm resistor on the cable could be a solution????

I don't like the idea to spend more than 1K euros for a new pc and after that not be able to use my CDU...

I'm really sad about it!!!!

Why not pick up a cheap second Video card?

I just bought a PCI version of a NVIDIA 9500GT to go in my Dell 580 to run more panels on my MIP. It has S video on it though I have no need for it (just using the VGA and DVI)

Check ebay for older PCI cards with S Video if you don't want to grab one of the few newer ones that still has that output.

I'm not familiar with the OC CDU so this question might be stupid: What's that with the 56Hz refresh? PAL-standard is 50Hz, have I missed something?

I would try to connect to a normal TV-set first and get any kind of normal picture to eliminate the possibility of driver or OS issues.

Because with the graphig card setting the lower refresh rate is 56Hz for the 800x 600 resolution.
actually I'm doing tests....what I mean is that if on the same craphing card I connect the monitor directly to the S-Video connection it works fine but if I connect it via DVI it does not work...so I'm afraid that when I will buy a new card without S-video connection it'll not work

OC has a VGA to Video (TV) converter available that they recommend to use with the CDU. They don't mention if it works with a graphics card with DVI-output and a DVI to VGA adapter...
