HELLO,
I AM HAVING TWO ISSUES...ONE IS WITH MY GO FLIGHT MCP MODULE AND THE OTHER COMPUTER PERFORMANCE THE LATTER I BELIEVE IT DIRECTLY RELATED TO MY USB PLUG DEVICES. FIRST OFF…HERE ARE THE SPECS OF MY COMPUTER;
OCZ GOLD XTC PC2-6400 4GB DDR2-800
WESTERN DIGITAL 1TB 5400-7200RPM
AMD ATHLON 64 X2 DUAL CORE 6000+ SOCKET AM2
PNY XLR8 9800GT 1024 VIDEO CARD
M2N-SLI DELUXE MOTHERBOARD
ENERMAX EG465P-VE POWER SUPPLY
LG GSA-4120B SUPER MULTI DVD REWRITER
MICROSOFT CURVE 2000 KEYBOARD
WINDOWS XP
6 USB PORTS
GO FLIGHT MCP......
BASICALLY I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THE GO FLIGHT MCP MODULE IS VERY POWER HUNGRY AND WILL NOT RUN PROPERLY IF PLUGGED DIRECTLY INTO THE PC USB PORT IF OTHER USB PLUG AND PLAY DEVICES ARE TO BE USED.
THE GF MODULE MUST HAVE ITS OWN SEPARATE POWERED USB PORT…..HAVING SAID THAT, I STILL HAVE SOME ISSUES WITH SOME OF THE DIGITS DISAPPEARING FOLLOWING A MODE SELECTION EVEN WHEN PLUGGED INTO THIS DEVICE…HOWEVER, THE DIGITAL READOUTS WILL COME BACK IF I ROTATE THE RESPECTIVE KNOB FUNCTION…HERE IS AN EXAMPLE;
IF THE ‘VERTICAL SPEED’ AND ‘HGD’ LED’S EXTINGUISH FOLLOWING A MODE SELECTION LIKE AUTOPILOT OFF….THE REMAINING LED’S GO A BIT BRIGHTER UNTIL I MOVE THE VERTICAL SPEED WHEEL AND HEADING KNOB…AT THIS POINT THOSE DIGITS COME BACK TO LIFE AND THE OTHER DIGITS GO BACK TO THERE PRESET INTENSITY.
THIS PROBLEM COULD BE THE CHEAP POWERED USB DEVICE I AM USING. IT IS A 20 DOLLAR FUTURE SHOP UNIT WITH A 5 VOLT PLUG IN FACILITY AND 4 USB HUB PLUGS…THIS BRINGS ME TO MY FIRST QUESTION….WOULD IT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE WHAT TYPE OR MAKE OF POWERED USB HUB I USE?? IN BASIC TERMS IT IS NOT JUST A DEVICE TO SUPPLY 5 VOLTS AS OPPOSED TO TAKING IT FROM THE COMPUTER?
I CANNOT CONNECT ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE GF MODULE TO IT…ANY OTHER ITEMS WILL AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE GF MCP.
NOTE ALSO, PLUGGING THE MCP INTO THE COMPUTER OR THE POWERED USB PORT AND UNPLUGGING ALL OTHER DEVICES, ALLOWS THE UNIT TO OPERATE PERFECTLY….SO I AM PRETTY CONFIDENT THAT THE LACK OF GO FLIGHT PERFORMANCE IS RELATED TO POWER. ALSO, I HAVE CHECKED THE POWER SUPPLY TO THE AFOREMENTIONED USB HUB AND EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE SATISFACTORY.
COMPUTER SPEED.....
I HAVE A NUMBER OF ITEMS PLUGGED INTO THE COMPUTER SO FAR. NAV 1 AND NAV 2 ARE MODIFIED UNITS (BY LEO BODNAR), TO ALLOW FOR PLUG AND PLAY OPERATION.
I AM USING LEO BODNARS BU0836X I/O BOARD AND HAVE IT PLUGGED DIRECTLY INTO ONE OF THE PC USB PORTS. I HAVE DISABLED THE JOYSTICK FUNCTION DIRECTLY IN FS9, AND HAVE IDENTIFIED THE AILERON, RUDDER, AND ELEVATOR POTS THROUGH FSUIPC. (BASICALLY RIPPED MY OLD JOYSTICK APART AND USED THE ROTARY POTS TO MAKE MY OWN CONTROLS).
THE CANbus CONTROLLER (ALSO LEO'S) IS CONNECTED DIRECTLY INTO THE PC USB. THIS DEVICE OPERATES THE ENGINE GAUGES , OF WHICH I ONLY HAVE 2 AT THE TIME BEING, THE REMAINING WILL BE CONNECTED AT A LATER DATE. HERE IS THE LEO BODNAR VIDEO LINK TO EXPLAIN THE OPERATION;
http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/showthread.php/22377-Boeing-engine-instruments-conversion
I DO NOTICE THAT THE ENGINE GAUGE RESPONSE SLOWS DOWN A BIT ONCE THE FLIGHT SIMULATOR IS IN MOTION (PARK BRAKE OFF). EVERYTHING IS SUPER SMOOTH WITH THE BRAKES SET.
SO BASICALLY…MY SECOND QUESTION HERE IS…AM I OVER TAXING MY COMPUTER WITH TOO MANY USB DEVICES?
DOES ANYONE HAVE SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW I CAN BUMP UP THE SPEED WITH EITHER A COMPUTER UPGRADE OR ADDITIONAL POWERED USB HUBS?
THANK YOU
-JIM
