Scenario...

Cut a USB cable in half.

Put an RJ45 onto each cut end.

Plug 1st cable into PC and patch panel.

Plug 2nd cable into RJ45 outlet and USB device.

Has anyone tried this? I'm aware of the 5 metre limitation on USB cables, but other than that, I can't think why it shouldn't work.

Dont know why you would want to do that ?

For those having problems with the USB 5 meter limit: There are usb extenders available. this is a set of converters which you can connect with CAT5 cables over a lenght of up to 150 feet. Should be enough for most sims ;-)

Used them many times and work without a problem.

I use this software to a USB webcam. It creates a virtual USB port, just like a real work.
