Hi All,
I have just seen a 40" plasma at my local recycle store, and its selling for a very cheap price because the sides have scuffs (but you wont see the sides if its in my sim).
The width of the plasma is about the same as my sim.....
Should I go for it?

I don't see why not? check its all good pixels wise before you hand over the £ though, I bought a 2nd hand plasma about the same size n some of the edge of the screen was knackered! I use mine for my instrument panel.

Hi,
To be honest, its better than what i've got now which is a tiny dell screen!
Even if a few dead pixels, I can cope with that because its a damn size larger than what I want.
He only wants £70 because it has scratches and scuffs. Firstly the plasma will be mounted in my sim which is more or less a dark environment so wont be seen. Secondly, when the screen is on you cant see the scratches!
I think I will go for it!
By the way its a 42" and not a 40" as I first thought.....
Aj,
EDIT: I've just bought it! :) :)

With Plasma vs any other LCD screen you have better blacks and better price for inch. And you loose whites, resolution, and maybe a shorter color life. Plasmas also are less energetic efficients and give a lot of heat im your room. But as usual, all of this are just some factors to take into account vs many others!
Congrats, and post pics!

Are you sure you wont see those scratches? They look pretty nasty to me.
The price of tv's are so low that I don't think I would have paid £110 for it - but each to his own.
Don't forget to let us know how brilliant/crap* a buy it was once it arrives. (* delete as applicable) ;)
Allan.
P.S. I absolutely HATE IT when the seller adds this in the shipping details - THE TV WILL NOT BE INSURED DURING TRANSIT. Why would I , as I buying care whether the tv is insured or not? It is the sellers problems if it damaged during transit. grrrrrrr.
I also hate - I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ITEMS LOST IN THE POST - errrr Paypal begs to differ.

What's the worst that can happen? I take the bezel off and spray it black. The scratches I can bare with!
At the end of the day, its got to be better than my tiny 17" screen!
Can you see the scratches in this pic?

I suppose for £110 (in the words of Dragon's Den) It is worth a punt.
As for not seeing the scratches in the pic - Photoshop is excellent nowadays. ;) ............I tease.........
As for your old visuals - put it in the attic and in 30 years times when you have a 3 x 110" LCD tv's display you can get it down and get all teary eyed about the good old days.

I think getting your money back is the best possible outcome in this scenario. For a little more than £110 I am sure you could do much better locally. With items such as this it is always safer to see before you buy.
I am using a 32" LG HD TV for visuals. Suits my purpose and available room. I have a little used BenQ Projector which I would sell if you want to go that route. PM me if interested.

What a pain. Did you have any problem getting a refund or did the seller try it on?

Hi Buddy,
Called company today and they said that will get either a replacement telly out to me or offer a refund. Either way it was no quibble. I will get a call tomorrow.
What is it with ebay, there's always something wrong with something you buy, never straight forward.
Although, Iv'e just bought a new Piaggio scooter from ebay and it is mint!

Hi Alex
Hope you don't think I was being forward answering in your thread re the TV you bought. Be very careful there. Why not check your local papers and see what is in the small ads. Many people upgrade their TVs and then they find they can't get rid of their old one - you could pick up a bargain plus you could see it working before parting with the cash!
I only mentioned the projector I have in case you really wanted to go that way. It is sitting unused in my room (I used it for watching movies before simming really got me)
I will get around to putting it in the classifieds someday!

Maybe my Spidey Senses are tingling for no reason but -
A) How will they send a replacement when the tv you bought seemed a one off?
B) Why didn't they refund today rather than "call you tomorrow"?
I am a suspicious old git (especially with Ebay)...

Hi Allan / Bill
Well a replacement is out of the question so they have agreed to a full refund!
I have just got to bin the smashed telly now, because guess what, they dont want to pay for me to send it back, its cheaper for me to bin it!
Bill: I will send you a pm at some point regarding the projector, sounds like a beamer is the best alternative.
Cheers. Alex

You are well away from that deal Alex. Glad it worked out Ok for you. Maybe a beamer would suit you better but there are a lot of things to consider before taking that route.
