Hey i'm new to this forum and i'm starting to build a overhead in 2 months.

So therefore i havesome questions.

1: How to you get the Light outputs to work (NGX). (Expecting opencockpits output board and i'm gonna use the NGX)

2: When I've made a mouse makro (FSUIPC), I can only get it to work when I've pressed on the window monitor (Useing 3 screens for showing the window (TH2GO) and 1 for the instruments)

3: What things do I need for my overhead besides the plexiglass (I'm making the overhead without any gauges, and without some switches (For example the temp control for the cabine))

Thank in advance.

Patrick, Denmark.

Hi Patrick,

I am also building my own Overhead and am using a thick layer of acrylic glass with printed panels laminated then a thinner layer of acrylic glass over the top. It looks good and is good for a start. I am using Prosim737 http://prosim737.com/forum/index.php (Forum) http://www.prosim737.com/shop/ (Shop) and Pokeys Cards http://www.flightsimparts.eu/ I am only showing you these to give you something to read and think about I am not affiliated with either one. It is where I ended up after considering what I was trying to achieve. The Prosim 737 suite contains all the modules that are on the page except for the Jetstream Flight Model. Flightsimparts.eu is owned by Wendy who is a member here and is very helpful if you have any questions regarding the Pokeys Cards and there is also a thread here if you do a search. Wendy also has a Led extension Board for the Pokeys Cards http://www.flightsimparts.eu/Simulator_PoKeys_ULNBoard.html

Kind Regards

Bernie.

Thanks for your answer, but I think, I will stick to my original plan.

Can anyone answer any of my questions?. Please :-D

Re question 1. You will not be able to drive your overhead light outputs from PMDGX until someone writes the software to link sioc (assuming you use OC) and PMDGX. Their SDK has only recently been released

Hi Patrick.

Not sure I can answer your questions in full but I am also currently constructing my over head (amongst loads of other things). I am using dual pole switches - one side of the switch to the annunciators and the other will be linked through BU0836X cards by Leo Bodnar to FSUIPC. I also have the NGX and so far have the OpenCockpits MCP and EFIS up and running.

David is correct in saying that until OC get their SIOC software written, there will be many of their cards and plug and play devices that wont work with the NGX. I contacted them a couple of weeks ago and they state that they have the SDK and are currently working on the scripts but no-one knows how long it will be before any or all their products will be functional with the NGX.

Regarding your second question, I am not quite sure what you mean about pressing the monitor. Is it a touch screen?

Question 3 really comes down to how much work you want to put into the overhead and how much money you are willing to spend. I have OC panels for what will be a complete and fully functional OH - one day. If you are wondering which functions are not necessary and which ones are, they all are really and if you are going to the extent of printing your own panels to stick on to plexiglass, would it not pay you to get all the panels printed (complete with gauges) even though some panels will be dummy ones. It would add more to the overall effect you are probably trying to achieve.

Sorry if this doesn't completely answer all your questions fully but as you will appreciate, everyones cockpit and ideas on how to build and wire it up will be different. Hopefully you will be able to glean some ideas too from other peoples cockpits and sites.

Good luck.
Gary

Thank you, both of you.

#1: Okay so I just have to wait for the SIOC.
#2: Sorry I meant, when I click on the window monitors.

This is my current, flight sim setup. And the top 3 screens are the window monitors (Windows sees them as one big monitor)

#3: I want to spend about 1000$ on the overhead.

#2: Sorry I meant click not press, I had forgotten what the correct word was.
