I'd like to say a big hi to everyone here!
I've been coming here for a couple of months now. I like the atmosphere so much I'd like to stick around. With the Holidays I've had a chance to join and upload some pictures of my own generic pit. They're in the gallery. I haven't learned how to link to them yet.
It's still very early days for my pit and your comments are welcomed.

Bill.

edited for grammar.

This is Bill's photos in the Gallery: http://www.mycockpit.org/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=576

Looks very good to me, it's much more developed than most simmers even want to do. Thanks for posting your pictures.

If I want to get the pic in the post I usually upload it to my personal website and put in the IMG link like this:

And welcome to the club :D

Welcome Bill! Man it is good to see so many new faces and so many new (to me) projects! This should be a great place for meeting and talking about our projects. And as a friend of mine and I say.. No glazing over of the eyes while we talk about it! Very nice indeed!! :)

Hello,

Nice work Bill. I hadn’t seen a single seat set up till now. Here is my humble work that I have started. I have come over with Project Magenta's forum. I have already seen some incredible work here, and it’s given me ideas on how to improve my project. Speaking of which that is going to figure out how to get seven segment LED's working in my overhead.

Look forward to seeing more of your work Bill.

Best Regards,
James

Nothing "humble" about your setup James... Looks great... and you're able to fly it :)

very nice job wollo....Bill :)
as an aircraft engineer I appreciate the realistic construction down to the lightening holes :)
If I'm not mistaken, that's LOMAC you're flying...
How hard is it to get the gauges on a second monitor?

James, real nice work there. I was sorely tempted to do something similar but don't have the space. I'll bet that's something else on final approach.
for your seven segment displays you might want to try : http://www.opencockpits.com/modules.php?name=Content2&pa=showpage&pid=31

jabomeister, I think you are the first person to see the holes for their true purpose. I hope I haven't weakened the structure too much.
That was indeed Lomac, it wasn't too bad to get the gauges going. It isn't a second monitor on pc1 though. Its a second computer networked with pc1 .
Your laptop may be able to run the software. Its definately worth a try.Nice desktop sim mate, keep us updated with pics.

You need this first it's called F4 glass: http://www.eagle9.nl/redirtest.asp?lokatie=/main/Downloads/default.asp

then go here: http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=78906

post number 8 explains it quite well. let me know if you have any problems.
Read down to post 10 if you play Il-2.

Matt, your cockpit is inspirational, how long have you been building that?

Bill
Thanks for the links
I tried UDPSpeed for IL2 on the laptop and any version I tried failed to run.
The laptop is old running windows 98....and I don't even have it home at the moment.
For my next setup, I want to use just two monitors on one computer, so I would need the instruments to run on the same machine. That's easy with FS, when I tried IL2 running UDPSpeed on the same machine I had to window it and it ran really slow.
F4 Glass should work fine on a second monitor since Falcon 4 is a pretty old piece of software and the requirements are lower.

Bill, thanks for the kind words.... Before it flew into a storage unit (5 months ago), about five years. Looking for a new home to put it in :)

Is 5 month without not killing you?

Does crying myself to sleep count  Nahhhh, better times will come. I look forward to a new home, with much more space for my project. :)

Space... The final fronteer!!! I know all too well the problem with space.. And no matter how much you have, you always need (want) more!! :)

Wollo,

Thanks for the link. I have been wondering how I’m going to take this next project done. Everything that I have built so far is self taught. Yes, final approach is nice; however I would like to one day get it to have a moving platform!!!!! Have you thought about a moving platform at all? I thought it a little daunting when I received the 7 segments in the mail with nothing else!!!! Thanks for the link!!! Seriously!!!

Matt,
You really had to put your sim into storage???? Oh, how much of a bummer that is. DO I remember right, is it not your sim that I saw on a video from the project magenta site? Was it not the videos where you had a take off and landing video? If so, it was the inspiration to my building my flight sim. I hope that you get it out of storage soon and start to soar the sim skies again.

Best regards,
James

Yes, the video over at PM... I think it's still there.... ? I think Doug Norman was flying... I had a good time with my friends from Peoria that day. Bob Reed has spent some time flying my pit too. I look forward to getting it back outa of storage and in flying condition :)

James, I have thought about motion. I'll skin it all in aluminium, fit out the insides (not necessarily in that order)and generally finish everything else then I'll think about motion. Sort of another whole project. I'm not even sure if my structure would be up to the strain.

Bill, I just looked at your recent upload in the gallery, is your main view a CRT or rearprojection.... maybe something else? What size is it, and what resolution are you getting.

wollo
01-06-2007, 08:38 PM
Matt, It's a Samsung 32" lcd. It's native resolution is 1360x768 (not brilliant). It's got a wonderfully bright picture and a contrast ratio of 5000-1. That was what swung it for me.

edit: Just occurred to me, I think you've seeing my subwoofer sticking out making my had look a bit crt like.

Matt Olieman

You're right ... the subwoofer, hidden :) 5000:1 contrast ratio for a LCD is fantastic. Looks good....

Your projects make me speechless...and that is a feat!
Long way to go before I get to that level
