Hi!
I want to build a 737ng flight sim and was wondering what type and how many phidget boards it would take just for the switches and led lights. No encoders or led displays or anything else just this.

just for switches and LEDs I would go with 0/16/16. IF you were going to have pots, etc. then the 8/8/8 is a good choice. The number of boards depends on layout, number of switches, types of lights, etc etc etc.

On the 0/16/16 board which one would you use for the switches digital inputs or digital outputs? Also which ones would you use for the led's?I already have the 2010_1 - PhidgetAdvancedServo Kit 4-Motor and the 1031_0 - PhidgetLED-64 Advanced boards.

Use the LED board for LEDs if you can, but you would use inputs for switches and outputs for lights. The 16/16 does require the use of a seperate power supply for lights and switches.

can you recommend a power supply that would be sufficent?

You can use any DC power supply up to the maximum voltage for the board. Which is 30V as I recall.
I use two types of supplies:
28V for some of the specialty Honeywell switches and lamps.
5 volts for the regular switches.
My 5V are power supplies from old PCs.
I use LED-64 card for leds. Items such as cockpit lamps can be controlled directly from power supplies without going thru phidget cards,
If one wanted to simulate electrical system accerately e.g. failures.
That could be done using phidget relays.
Relays would switch power on and off between power supply and busses and/or devices.

he is right. Any DC power supply from 3V up to 30V 2A will work. I use an old PC PSU to power everything and it works good. The only exception is the 8/8/8 boards which take power off the USB bus.

On the phidgets board there is a 5V connection on either side of the board do you connect the pos power supply from your power source here and do you connect it to both sides so it picks up on both sides?
