Hi everyone,
i Have started to make Boeing 737 Throttle handles for Saitek quadrant, i really would appreciate an opinion about them, let me know what you think.
they are available to buy now from CockpitSimParts (http://www.cockpitsimparts.co.uk) or they could be found on ebay, item no. 121070424212.
the product is new, designed to fit Saitek throttles, its good idea for those who want to get the feel of the real throttle, it really does change the experience of flying.
i have made 2 different type of handles, for those who have only one siatek throttle they can go for the joined handle, and for those who have 2 saitek throttles they can go for the separated handed, (Eng1 and Eng2). i also made a short video on youtube to explain more about this product.
if you have any inquiries please let me know.
many thanks
Sam.

Cool! Somebody had to pick up that idea, great that you did this. I have a little plan how to motorise any standard throttle, no time to test it yet however.

hi,
thank you for your comment, i have not come up with a plan to motorise throttles yet, its really good if you already got the idea as long as its simple enough to implement to standard throttles.
think about it, how may people are flying using normal throttle ie Saitek / ch? i would say around 90% so, bringing something like that to the market will be really good idea,, this is why i thought about the handles.
well, share your ideas with us when you have had time to test it and good luck.
many thanks
Sam.

The idea it quite simple: have a servo be contolled by the throttle position from FS. If you fly on autopilot, the levers will follow the servo, if you fly manually, the servo follows the levers. Connect them with strings or rubber bands and hide the whole thing under a realistic looking enclosure.
Add on for you to develop ;-) : strips/rods that make the handles space correctly. The real TQ is wider. The spacers will lengthen the handles as well, so one can add the enclosure.

very useful information but the question is, (and this is coming from an IT Technician now !! :D ) the programming bit! how or what would you use to link the servo with the auto pilot?
i have my really TQ and i have been thinking about ways to motorise it, the problem is finding the time to do the research is quite difficult at the moment. (maybe one day! )
well, i will think about ways and i will share with you.
thank for the idea.

Linking the throttle servo with FS is as simple as linking the flap gauge servo or any other gauge. There are offsets within fsuipc that disclose the throttle values. I use SIOC and open cockpit servo controllers and I don't see a problem in doing that. The challenge is to calibrate the movements so the servo exactly follows the throttle levers, perhaps because of changing angles of connections or whatever. I'm sure neither the servo nor the levers move linear compared to the throttle value.
But even that should be doable. I programmed a script for the flap servo to correct the non linearity of the travel (The gauge travel from flap 1-5 is greater than from 30-40 while the values are less). The same principle could be used to correct issues in the throttle travel.
Having sayed that, the last SIOC programming I did was 4 years ago so I really have to brush that up. Maybe I should :-D
Looks so good Sam I have ordered a set. Cant wait to try them out

Hi Sam
Im keen to buy your handles but whats stopping me is in the Vid the extra weight shows the throttle sliding by itself to the cut off position Please excuse me for being direct but doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a throttle and I cant think of anything more annoying. Am I seeing the fault correctly?

Sam I notice as you mention that the due to the extra weight the throttles slide back to cut off position by themselves, is this still correct? I want to buy them but not if I need to keep chasing the throttle

Hi Zoran,
i really appreciate your input on this mate, like i said before i really would like to know what everyone thinks about them which is good, it helps me to improve the product.
regarding the handles, they are abit heavy as you can see from the video, but it will not drop to the reversal buttons if that's what you mean? the way to correct that is to put what i think is called sticky back material on the throttles unit just under the handles to give it a bit of friction if you know what i mean? i stared to supply this sticky back materiel now with every order i receive.
i remember when i was using the saitek throttles i made handles made of wood, they were heavy too but i managed to put some electric tape on the saitek unit to do the friction and i really enjoy using them, the way i looked at it is anything would slightly give it the look and the feel of the real throttles is better than the original saitek ones. (but it comes at cost!!)
well, the new news is that i am working on something new now anyway, same think but with lighter material. got my CNC Machine now and i am trying to do few cuts to see what it would be like to have a lighter handles, but from the look of it we are still going to have more or less same problem with weight, its because the knobs which is a replica of the real ones are quite heave really.
will keep you updated with my new handles hopefully in a week or so.
thanks
Sam.

Hi guys,
here is a quick update for the new light edition Saitek levers i am making, few of mates had a concerns about the weight of the handles, i have managed to find a better material to make them with, i used a PVC to construct the levers and it turned up better than the older ones, (I think) and definitely lighter.
here is the video of the update.

let me know what you think.

Sam,
These look really nice. There is another site i came across a site that has multi aircraft levers for Saitek as well. FLIGHTSIMPM.COM

Thanks for your reply, i had a look at that site, looks good but his handles are made of wood i think and the leavers are smaller than the one i am making. not bad for the price though.
i use Boeing 737 replica handles (full size), the levers are bigger and more handful, i try my best to make them as close as possible to the really throttles.
its still in development, so you never know what i might come up with next with this one!!
my next product will be full Boeing 737 throttles quadrant, real size, come up very soon.
keep in touch.

Yes I agree with you. Thats good to hear that you will build the full throttle, what price range should we expect? And also, how difficult would it be for you to make 787 style levers for saitek? I have been looking for a pair.

Looks really awesome...... just hope you don't go the route of flight deck solutions by forgetting about the amateur builders, the prices being way out of range for us.

Hi jsfboat (http://www.mycockpit.org/forums/member.php?u=8201),
thank you for comments, i really don't think i will ever get to flight deck solutions level in production sadly! but i hope one day i do!!:)
of course prices will never be as hight, this is the point of what i do, i have been there and i know its not cheap project to get in to.
also, you will be pleased to know that i am half way building to sell plug and play full Boeing 737 throttle quadrant, so, keep in touch and keep checking my website.
thanks.

Hi Sam
I want to congrat you on well done job for this 737 saitek handles as of my levers are not made out of wood but plastic (737 set weight is around 160g) and yes the levers are a bit smaller.I`ve been makeing saitek custom levers for almost 2 years now ;)

Hi mate,
many thanks for you comments, i do like what you do and i really think you are very creative, i wish you all the best.
I have only started this project at the beginning of this year, as you can see from my product, i think we both are very similar in our creation, i just wish you were based here in the UK, maybe we could have worked together!!:)
i am working on very big project at the moment, in the next few months i should have alot more product on my website, again a unique product hopefully.
keep in touch and if there is anything i can help you with please let me know.
