Korry Switches

I probably should have asked this question before I almost finished it, but are the Korry Switches in the B747 Overhead Panel latching or momentary. Which is best to use. I made my Korry Switches out of 3/4" and 1" Acrylic square tubing. I've tried tactile, mini latching and push button latching switches (1st pic)and none have been satisfactory mechanically; problems with my korry buttons sticking or moving around because they aren't psychically attached to the switch, just positioned against it. I guess I need something a little more heavy duty with a plunger that I can actually attach to the Korry button. I was looking at this switch online (2nd pic), The cheapest I can find is for momentary $2.35 x 78 switches = $183.30 or for latching $2.75 x 78 switches = $214.50. Way more than I want to spend unless they work much better. Has anyone else had better success at building Korry switches?

Ebay has switches of both Latching and non latching, probably not up to your usual C&K standard.

I actually got the idea to build my Korry switches from that site. I didn't like the way they turned out using the solid rod, there was too much bleeding between the leds so I remade them with acrylic tubing and put dividers between the 2 leds. I wasn't able to find the switches he used so I tried using tactile switches but they didn't work very well. The switches on Ebay look like the same switches with caps on them but I can't tell for sure. There a lot cheaper than the ones I priced. Is there any way to find out?

I bought 30 of the momentary ones which I have no use for now. Was going to use them on an OH panel.
Measured and they are very close to the size of those used in the link I provided. The switch connections
are the same. So they are a Chinese copy of the C&K.
Should imagine the usage a home cockpit gets they should be fine if your finances are stretched.

My cockpit uses Project Magenta, not sure if that makes any difference whether I use momentary or latching switches. When I started building my overhead I was just learning to use SIOC and was totally lost. I couldn't get the tactile switches to work right but I think it was my lack of understanding plus problems with wiring. What is the overall size of your switches? Can I take the cap off and insert the plunger into the korry button, will that still allow enough travel for the switch to work? I'd like to see a sample but Dallas, Texas is a long way from New Zealand and I'm not sure what the shipping would be. How much do you want for them?

The caps pull off, the dimensions are very close to what the guy used in the above link. Shaft length is 5mm and is same as used by the guy.

Les ,, not sure if it matters or not but those switchs are momentary OFF ,,, so when they are not pressed they are 'ON' (as in closed)

Normal switchs like that are press for ON.

Of course it might be a Kiwi thing :)

One Common terminal so you pick either NC or NO. In Jerrys case wire to NO. Press to Close.

I actually made parts for the Fire Handles when my son was still working for the sign company and had access to their laser engraver. I just never got around to putting them together. I'm sure yours look more professional than mine would but I need handles for engines 3 & 4.

Here in Aus you can buy the same type of switches from Alltronics (google them). Around $1AU each.
Do you have any photos of how you made your korries? I am making some and have based them on the solid acrylic bar method.

I made my Korry Switches using 1" Acrylic Rod, cut a piece of thin acrylic for the back, front and the divider, painted the inside black and then glued on the clear front. I used WELD-On Acrylic Slovent Cement to put them together. The buttons on the front I made out of 1/4" Acrylic in a sign shop that my son used to work for that had a laser engraver. Unfortunately he quit so I can't make any more of those. It was a lot more trouble than doing it the square rod way but I think it looks a little better. I discovered that bright leds like orange or white need to be as far back as you can get them and softer leds like green need to be more to the front. These were some trial pieces I had left over. The finished Korrys were a little deeper.

Hi! I don't understand something.. I'm trying to build also an overhead panel (744) and thus I need to build korry like switches. But How many positions there is on that switch ? 2 or 3 ? For me: 2 positions only with two leds right ?

By the way i am interested in those from hispapanel (rafi19H).

Korry and Eaton 1" switches are two position latching. A total of 4 bulbs are used, two for each legend.
