Hi all,
I am confused(easily done) over what will work with a o/c mastercard. Cts288 which
o/c sell i know works but it is to big for my application. I have found the following
one :
http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1695327.pdf?_ga=1.48925167.876910451.1480484339
it will fit nicely but are having a job as to know if it will work. The two encoders are described
differently and so it confuses me.
Can someone tell me if the two are compatible.
The CTs288 is described as a 2Bit Binary coded encoder.
Thanks
Les

The cts288 is a gray scale encoder which means only 1bit at a time changes. It uses 2 inputs lets call them a and b. When you rotate the encoder the inputs go on a then b then ab . The encoder from farnell has a totally different pattern it goes a then b then a then b
So no good for what you want. You need a 2 bit gray code encoder

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for replying,I am confused because here is another link from Bourns and this time they refer to it as 2 bit gray code.
http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/2178.pdf
Maybe it needs to be more than a gray code one.
On a side point that i thought i read somewhere you
used the o/c encoder2 board with terrys modified code. Is this correct and what encoders did you feed it with?.
I see he has now modified the code to handle
1/4,1/2 and full cycle encoders. When i last saw
his codeing it was for only one type.
Be interested in your comments.

Hi Les
I use the dual encoders from leo bodnar with the modified pic chip in the open cockpits cards, i also use the cts288 encoders direct to input cards

Thanks Geoff,
Yes i have just built the o/c encoders2 card and have found a 9mm encoder which i
think will work with the card if i use the 1/2 cycle code that Terry Adams has made
available.
Did use a 4mhz crystal or stay with 20mhz one?.
