Can I use any Hitec servo with this controller or does it have to be the 322hd? I have 2 gauges that have to run about 180 degrees and my local hobby shop tells me that the 322 won't travel 180 degrees. Help.

Hi,
Sure, you can use pretty much any hobby servo you want. I've been using all kinds of hitec's for my projects.
BUT, the 322 does travel 180 I believe. I'll test one out tomorrow and report back. I have some 422 in stock also and will test those. If only the 422 works let me know on your order and I'll give you those.
There is a funky discrepency in what the specs say on a servo to what it's actual travel is. I've seen servos say all kind of odd degrees in the specs when in reality they travel much further. Something to do with operating angle vs travel angle and such.
Bottom line, for 180 travel you won't need to go buy some expensive servo. The $15 ones are fine.

I just mounted a Hitec 55 which is super small on the back of my flaps gauge. It moves 180degrees no problem.

Okay, I tested my 322 and sure enough, 180 degrees of travel no problem.
You should be fine :)

Alright, I'm putting my second order together right now. Sigh, I hope Alan has the next version of FSPidgets out soon. Does the current version support the 4 servo controller?

Yep,
Current version already supports servos.
Alan is working 18 hour days with his job right now and he had some personal matters to attend to. He has been working on the program when ever he has a chance.
