GeForce 8800 GTX video card

Hi all,
I am considering buying the GeForce 8800 GTX video card for my next computer coupled to the Matrox TH2GO. Is anyone using this video card? I would welcome any comments or advice as I know little about PC engines. I assume this new card is a PCI unit, if so, will I be able to retain and use my current 128mg Matrox Parhelia triple head AGP card at the same time or does that have to go?
It's time that I get some serious improvement in framerates.

The 8800 GTX is an extremely fast GPU.

Your computers CPU will have to be fast too, otherwise the CPU will be the bottleneck and the 8800 will be overkill.

Like said above its a PCIe (PCIexpress) board and your computer will need a pcie slot. PCIe IS NOT PCI !!

My new computer is being build now with the 8800 gts.

The 8800 series is also directx 10 capable, so its waiting for the directx10 patch now for fsx.

I have seen computers running FSX with a good framerate using the 8800 with all details to max....so it is possible ;-) (although i will stick to fs9 for my sim).

Cheers Stef, I forgot to mention it will be going in a new PC that will be built 'around' it! Can you tell me the difference between the GTS and the GTX, is it worth going for the GTX? The tech stuff is over my head:roll:
I will probably stick with FS9 for a while too until PMDGs FSX 737 is ready, has that happened yet? Does anyone know? The new PC will be for the sim only, no other programs at all. Just a DVD burner, 5.1 soundcard and a modem I think.

the gtx has 768 mb of memory the gts has 640

The GTX has more universal shaders (128 vs 96)

Finally the GTX is slightly higher clocked.

In general the GTX is a bit faster, but considerably higher priced.

if you want the fastes GPU possible then the GTX is the way to go (although nvidia will release an ultra version in the near future).

If you are happy with the second fast, then the GTS is perfect. About 200 dollars cheaper and not that much slower.

GTS here and overclocked so it runs faster than a standard GTX without any problems.
Not that it applies to FS but the difference between my old 7800GTX and the 8800GTS in 3dMark06 (testing tool) is amazing.
More than happy with it and for FS I dont think it was worth the extra for the GTX with the cpu I am running.

Westozy, I dont have the 8800 but i do have the 7800 GTX and I use it for FS9 and FSX (and other games) It is a awsome card I have only ever purchased Nvidia based cards. I have an AMD 64 4000+ and 4Gigs of RAM I can usually get a decent 20FPS in FSX (depending on Aircraft) and in the high 60's or so for FS9. Anyway I hope this helps with your future purchase.

Westozy, I went for the GTS rather than the GTX and I don't regret it. Not much point in paying a couple of hundred extra bucks just to be cutting edge. Much better to buy a GTS and another few switches for your overhead !

Hi Gwyn,

Your going for same setup as me :D 8800 gts & TH2GO and I currently have 3 x 19" monitors (would love to make that projectors though!).
Have you got the TH2GO yet? If not bear in mind they have just brought out the digital version (I had to make do with the analogue) which I believe can perform better in keeping the 3 images lined up.

I haven't got the TH2go yet and I will be using it for Front view/Att & Nav/Eicas to replace my current Matrox Parhelia set-up. I've read up on the digital version and will get that one.
