View Full Version : MIP and monitor sizes

I am still to decide between Engravity, FDS or Symulatory MIP.
Assuming that they are all the same size ie 1:1, they should all take the same size monitors right?
Would I be right in assuming I would need 2x 17inch and 1x 15 inch lcd screens.
I want the eicas screen and the 2 glass standby instuments to be on the same monitor and not get in the way of the gear lever or flaps gauge or break pressure gauge etc.
I prefer the 2 glass standby inst as opposed to the 3 analouge ones.
I have seen that FDS make a MIP for this but does anyone else?
I ended up using 2 x 19" widescreens for PFDs/NDs and a 17" for standby/Eicas. The 17" is slightly overlpoapping the captains 19" LCD (sits just behind it on the right edge). There is *just* enough room for the gear lever.
Suggest you also ask the suppliers themselves for exact dimensions and advice on what to use.

Yes NicD... Very good advice! No one knows better then the suppliers!

I meant to say 17 inch wide screens.
I checked the dimensions for the 2 captains screens and the distance from the left side of the PFD to the right side of the ND, including the frame in the middle is 393mm.
Can someone please check against your MIP to see if the sizes are right. I got them from Marcuspilot website.
So anyway I worked out from a 19 inch 16:10 screen the width is 16.11 inches or 409mm. SO that should be fine.
For the MIP CDU the width req is 290.5mm and a 15 inch 4:3 lcd gives a width of 304.5. So this should work.
So am I just blowing smoke or am I on the right track?
2x 19 inch wide screen and one 15 inch 4x3?
You're on the right track. :)
One issue to consider is the flaps gauge. If you're going to use a software gauge (such as the PM one included with EICAS) then I dont think a 15" monitor will be big enough to display standbys, EICAS and flaps. However you can stick with the 15" and do the flaps gauge separately - such as the smikits gauge. Bit pricey though.
But be aware that measurements offered around various sites (including mine) and not to be taken as 'gospel'. They are often compromises between real dimensions, sim components, room constraints etc. That's why it's vital you get the low-down from the suppliers you're interested in.
And one other tip... try not to build major bits until you get your key main panels (eg MIP) delivered. Can save alot of frustration

Nick Just as a seperate thing, what are your thoughts on the Symulatory stuff?
Are the panels matt in finish or do they have a clear perspex layer over them.
The ones on the website seem to reflect an awfull lot of light.
I will try and create a mechanical guage with open cockpits and a servo? I think.
How much was your purchase from symulatory and what did they sting you for postage?
Oh and was anything broken?
The symulatory MIP looks better in real life than the photos. He's also improving things all the time so you (usually) get better than expected (their website has said come back soon for updates for over a year now btw  )
The finish is matt, although not totally flat. There is no perspex layer. However it scratches really easily so I coated mine in 3 coats of clear/flat lacquer spray. Its also a bit on the weak side and has to be handled very carefully. Fine once you get it mounted, or put a backer on it. I think you'll find that the FDS and Engravity MIPs are better build quality ... but more costly too.
Wih the financial questions - best to ask that using a PM ;)

For ours that would be 19 inch widescreens for PFD and ND. Eicas would depend on hardware standby/software standby/ISIS configuration.
I want the eicas screen and the 2 glass standby instuments to be on the same monitor and not get in the way of the gear lever or flaps gauge or break pressure gauge etc.
That would take a 14 inch or a 15 inch with a slim metal border in our ISIS setups.
I prefer the 2 glass standby inst as opposed to the 3 analouge ones.

We do too, but that would be a one glass standby ISIS. A 2 instrument version could be worked out too if you want it i guess, would have to check that.
The isis setup is not in the webshop but can be done if you drop us an e-mail. If you wish i can send you an image of the isis bezel.

Yes Stef that would be great.
Also does your MIP come with all the panels or is it like FDS where you buy them seperate as a pack?
Oh and is the price for single standby the same as the 3?
Do you have any other pics of the MIP apart from those on the website?
The only pic of the complete MIP is blurry.
Cheers

The kit consists of all aluminium backpanels with all toppanels, window frames, bezels for all gauges (standby's, flaps, yaw, break pressure, clocks), the new molded annunciators, all screws (various sizes, countersunk and non countersunk), dummy faceplates for brake pressure, yaw and clocks.
Lower subpanels are only part of the Pro kit or the aluminium stand, but can be purchased seperately for the regular Performance Line.
The PRO panels are backlit internally (fully dimmable in 3 sections), and the regular Performance Line can be backlit by yourself.

yes

you can click on the thumbnails to get a high res close up. You could also download the brochure here: http://www.flyengravity.com/download/17
I can post some more pictures, but i think it would be better to do so in our section of this forum or on our own forum. Dont want to make this an all engravity topic. ;-)
you asked for the isis bezel so i will post those here:

And to compare, here is the real one:

to give an idea of the level of detail of our panels with our annunciators and screws:

If you want more images we can start a new thread in our forum section here. There are more images to be found on the engravity section of this forum.
