DirectX 9+ Update
There is a new up date to Direct X available from Microsoft!
It probably is worth updating whilst we wait for DX10.
Pay particular attention to setting the "restore point" just in case you want to go back!!
See what Microsoft says below.
http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=7634584
File Name: dxwebsetup.exe
Version: 9.21.1148
Date Published: 10/24/2007
Language: English
Download Size: 10 KB - 212.6 MB*
The DirectX end-user installation includes all the latest and previous released DirectX runtime. This includes the bi-monthly D3DX, XInput, and Managed DirectX components.
The DirectX runtime cannot be uninstalled. We recommend Windows Me and Windows XP users turn on a "System Restore" point before installing. For information on turning on a restore point, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:
Windows Millennium Edition: Microsoft Knowledge Base article 267951.
Windows XP: Microsoft Knowledge Base article 310405.

This sounds weird since MS said they would not put out any more updates to DirectX 9.
Gotta check this out.

Multiprocessors and degraded performance running XP
Whilst investigating the problem above I discovered the following "hotfix"
in the Microsoft Knowledge Base regarding Multiprocessors and degraded performance running XP.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256
On the website click on 256986 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986/) Description of the Microsoft Windows registry.
This will give better detail.
The installation of this fix should only be installed if you are comfortable with manipulating "the registry"!
I have installed it on a test machine and am trying to figure out how to properly benchmark and evaluate it.
Bill.
