HI,
I don't know what the amps are for your power supply. Ours output 1.5 amps. You would want your power supply to be close to this. 12V is at the top end of the recommended voltage. Be carful not to fry the board.
You only need to add external power to the 8/8/8 if you plan to use the USB hub on it. Otherwise the 8/8/8 doens't need any extra power. It gets it's power from the USB cable.

I also wanted to use it to power my LED64 board as well, with the custom power cable. I am trying to keep everything contained inside the case with the minimal amount of wires hanging out. Plus, the only outputs on a computer power supply are 12 and 5v. Do I need an external power supply to the 8/8/8 if I am using the custom power cable?
