Re: How i can make a motion platform ????
Hi OmniAtlas,
No, no plans to commercialize.
If I had to do all over again, I would certainly look at making the platform out of Aluminum. I made this one out of 2x8's and 3/4 ply for the flooring. As you know wood tends to creek somewhat. Course I tell myself it passengers carry-ons. LOL
But seriously, for the pneumatics, we purchased the equipment from:
http://www.frightprops.com/pneumatics.html
You explain to them what your trying to accomplish and they will best advise how to proceed.

Oops, once on the site, search "motion platform".

Re: How i can make a motion platform ????
Hi Mitch, this is amazing. Looks like you've accomplished motion with under 2k? I didn't think this would even be possible.
Looks like you used the airbag kit http://www.frightprops.com/air-bag-k...ht-motion.html and epic USB? http://www.flightlink.com/base-page/epicusb/
Did you write your own software to interface with FSX/P3D?
I also have very little room. What is the effect like- when in flight do you actually feel the rotation, descend and landing?
Do you mind if I emulate your project? I'm not at that stage yet to build a platform but perhaps I. 1-2 years time. Would love to see some videos of it in action if you have them online.

Re: How i can make a motion platform ????
You will need some sort of interface card to contol motion with motors or walves (what you choose) and read the platform position feedback from potentiometers. Of course you will also need a motion program which will extract flight data, calculate motion cues and send them to motion platform...
Motion derived directly from aircraft position (pitch, roll, yaw ) is not the right way. The motion should simulate forces that occur during flight or better motion cues. For example acceleration is simulated with forward translation movement (surge) and tilting platform backwards and deceleration with backwards translation movement (surge) and tilting platform forward. That is for 6DOF platforms, with 3DOF you only have platform tilt for acceleration-deceleration (which is still good).
As Phil already suggested check BFFsimulation for motion ideas :

Re: How i can make a motion platform ????
I decided to use pneumatic cylinder, because the airbags provide only 3 inches or something slighty....
I need at least 30 inches or above,,, i think am going to large pneumatic cylinder....
Please help me guys to choose one

Re: How i can make a motion platform ????
Yes, but according to Mitch website 3" is sufficient to emulate lift and simulate turbulence? Also keep in mind his solution is under 1000 USD - the solutions I've looked at cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Re: How i can make a motion platform ????
Omni, I have to agree in full with Simon's explanation. For us, accel-decel was what we were after mostly due in part that we are spaced constraint. If not, we would of had to gone with another alternative rather than the bags.
The feeling of accel-decel takes much less motion to accomplish. Having said that, it is critical that the bags & fulcrum (U-Joint in our case) are appropriately placed. In other words, you want the bags nearest the pilot(s) and the fulcrum as far away as possible. Think of it in this way. Your on a teeder totter and your sitting on the very end. You feel the greatest amount of motion at this point. Now if you slide down the rail (closer to fulcrum) you will feel less.

Re: How i can make a motion platform ????
I had to look up what a 'teeder totter' is, lol
Now that you've set up your motion platform, how is the effect of 'acceleration-deceleration' and does the 6" airbag achieve that purpose well?
Thanks,
