Cessna 172 Simulator Building Tips?

So I'm 15, and my father and I have an interest in aviation, so much that we want to build a simulator in our basement. Our current plan is to purchase real aviation parts that have either not passed inspection, or are broken(repair them and use them). Our plan for converting the parts to P3D or FSX would be to hand them over to my brother, who has a degree in Computer Science and would create custom programs for them. My question is, are there any places or articles here or online that can explain the entire building process and where to start?
