New versions of FSUIPC and WideFS
Hi folks,
Just thought you'd like to know that there are new interim (i.e. test)
versions of both FSUIPC (3.55 and WideFS (6.596) now available on my Support
Forum.
These are now pretty much the final interim versions before I make them into
proper (documented! ) user releases, hopefully by the end of the month.
The main new thing in WideFS is support for UDP protocol. I'm using it here
in my cockpit with 10 PCs and it seems really smooth. I don't know if you'll
find it the same, but the new way of specifying the protocol (via the
Server) on all-XP setups should make it easy for you to compare UDP against TCP
or SPX.
Feedback via my Forum, please.
Regards,
Pete

Re: New versions of FSUIPC and WideFS
If you have TCP/IP installed on your WinXP, then you also have the UDP
protocol..

Re: New versions of FSUIPC and WideFS
If you are using XP UDP is installed, it is a transport layer for IP
like TCP is, nothing else should required for you than setting WideFS
to use UDP instead of TCP for the IP protocol...

Re: New versions of FSUIPC and WideFS
Hi Michel,
I´m not Katy, but did you read Pete´s detailed description in his forum?
UDP is simply faster but may be less reliable as, in comparison to TCP/IP,
UDP does not do transmission checking as TCP/IP does.

Peter

Re: New versions of FSUIPC and WideFS
Check on Pete's forum and his documentation? UDP has less overhead
but less reliability, so it just needs to be tested, if it works on
your system: fine, if not simply switch back to TCP or IPX...
