A Working Sperry SP-50

I just finished buttoning it up on the bench. I double and tripple checked every circuit connection before re-installing the chassis cover.

I was able to drill a 3/4" hole in the back of the chassis so the harness had a way out, and with the convoluted black wire tubing it fits very nicely.

24VDC power is applied here, and all of the electro-magnetically and solenoid operated switches are engaged. The disconnect will be controlled from the Boeing yoke using the switch for this purpose.

I was unable to get the pitch & roll control micro switches working. The circuit logic is too difficult to figure out and I didn't want to start snipping the original wiring off of them. I used a SPDT detector switch that I installed for the pitch control, and I'm not bothering with the roll control since I fly it in manual mode anyway and use the Heading Select function and turn it with the HSI bug.

I'm a happy camper today!

Yep, one of these days when I get all of this together. I have the SP-50 to install, finish the LCD display for the Sandel HSI, finish wiring all of the indicators for the MIP, on and on. You know how it goes.

I have so many things going on at once it doesn't seem like I'll finish any of them, but it slowly comes together a piece at a time.

Yup.. You just keep swinging away at it and a little at a time it all comes to gether. I was in the middle of a flight the other night when it dawned on me.. Hey this thing really flies!! in a sim sort of way!

I still haven't even re-installed the glareshield trim and the lighting from when I used the truck bed spray liner!

Something always seems to come up, but at least I'm glad I finished the SP-50 modifications.

I realize this is a very old thread but can anybody tell me where to connect the 24V for the solenoids to work?

I am the OP of this thread. I haven't been here in a LONG time. My SP50 head is still installed in the center control stand and is wired. It's a PITA to pull because of the wiring so I can't tell you. Experimenting with a 24VDC power supply on the solenoid contacts will not damage anything.

I'll see if i can dig up some photos. STBY.

removed every wire and starting from scratch
studied the manual so I understand what solenoid (s) should trip under certain circumstances and the logic behind the switch sequence
drawing the schematic as I "plot" along
awaiting my arduino Teensy board and a opto-coupler relay board
