Starting a DC9 cockpit, tips?
Good day everyone! I was wondering if anyone has any experience building a DC9 or MD80, and maybe they could pass on there "wisdom"? I'm basicly thinking about everything ( or close to everything ) made out of wood then painted. Also since I can't find any overheads from a DC9 or MD80, I figured I'd buy some switches and interface boards from desktop aviator and hook them up to the panel and the overhead, ect. Think this a good approach? Any tip would be great! Thanks!

I would use the Leonardo Maddog as the software, as there is a list of all the offsets necessary for cockpit building.

About md80project.dk, it's a forum dedicated to MD80 builders.
You can find actual MD80 parts (Including those rare locking switches!) for your project at the Airline Pilots Historical Society website. They have the lowest prices around, and they're very quick to reply to inquiries. They don't list everything they have for sale, so feel free to ask them if you can't find what you're looking for.

Also, since your in the us, you're in luck:

The Electronic goldmine is a surplus store where you can bulk buy simple electronics like toggle switches and stepper motors at rock bottom prices. The shipping is a little steep, so It's important to order everything they have that you need in one order. I bought around 70 switches and nearly 100 LEDs from them, and I have no complaints.
Another benefit of being in the US is that you can get these:

Much cheaper than Bodnar, and very high quality.

Re: Starting a DC9 cockpit, tips?
Hello, I was reading your posts and very helpful. Ive been flight sim'n for about 15 years, now I'm taking the hobby to the next level to do a home build. My favorite aircraft is the DC-9/MD-80 platform and that's what I want to build. Im starting with the overhead panel with levels of plexiglass and switches and have Bodnar BU0836X board on order. I love the work you've done and any help or tips for rookie hobbyist would be great. Thanks

Sorry, but I'm a HS748 builder, not an MD80 builder.
