    midi controller ?

hello guy i was wondering if anyone has tried using one of those usb midi controllers used for music producing. they have rotary encoders and sliders, does anyone know if fsx would recognise the midi as a game controller + using fsuipc ?

    Re: midi controller ?

    Hi,

I thought about it a few years ago. As far as I can remember, FSX cannot read midi, so you need a program that convert midi to key or joystick button. I could find one on the web.
An other point, is that midi controler have value between 0 and 127. It is rather insufficient for simming. You cannot access directly to the rotary encoder but only to the value of a midi controler.
Finally I gave up : these devices are rather expensive and inadequate for simming. For the same price, you may have a Saitek.

    Patrick.

    Re: midi controller ?

I use this to directly control parameters in a custom force feedback project. It costs only about £100 and has USB interface. You do need some sort of middle layer software to link FSUIPC and MIDI but this should not be difficult to anyone who can write VB or C programs as both interfaces (FSUIPC and Windows MIDI) are widely publicised.

There is even a sweeter version with motorised moving faders: http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/BCF2000-WH.aspx

If I remember correctly it can be set up to send incremental encoders movement.
