Re: Activate Approach phase on A320 MCDU
Hi,
This function of the MCDU has never worked properly. Sometimes you can get
the approach phase activated by either using the mouse to press the LSK or
the F6 key but the speed will not be managed and go down.

Do you know of any downloads that can operate the Opencockpit's FMC?
I know of Project magenta, cost too much for me at this time. If you know of others a little less expense, that would surely help me.
Thanks a Million,

To Rob van Leest,
this function works with me. I mean, when I am below 10000 feet at an indicated 250 knots
and getting close to the airport I set the speed managed on the FCU and activate the approach mode. By doing this the speed commanded is the green dot speed and the plane slows down to this green dot speed. As I start to lower the flaps the flap speeds are being set by the MCDU and the plane slows to the final speed of about 135 knots with flaps full.
I suppose this is the behavior you like to see?
When I am home tonight i'll post here another post with the included a320.txt file I have build up. The documentation about how to configure this file is wrong. If you follow the docs of PM regarding this it doesn't work. But there is some page in the MCDU called MONITOR where you can see the flap setting that is taken for the calc the speeds and there you can find out how to make up the a320.txt file.

Yep, as PDPO says, the aircraft will not slow all the way down to Vapp when you activate the Approach phase. It slows in increments, first to Green Dot speed (you can see this speed on the last page of the Performance pages - it's the best clean speed for the aircraft at it's current weight etc...) and then slows further as you deploy stages of flaps.
Obviously, it will struggle to do that if you are descending at 5000 fpm to the glideslope! Early prep is the key, as I have found out. Killed a lot of FS Passengers along the way too...I can't see the light but I think I found the tunnel...

Yes it works, but one conditions! Everything must be set (activate app phase, F1, F2, GearDown, F3, FFull) with more then 4000 feet or FL040. Then speed nicely go down from clean speed to Vapp. Below 4000 can not reach Vapp speed - in my case!

Hi all,
better late then never .. here is the A320.txt file that I have constructed. If you try it out and you find something to improve let me know....

Hi Peter!
Tkank you for your A320.txt file - the best for now. After several tests, approach phase works fine. But when change Thrust/Reduction on INIT page more then 1000/2000 (in my case 2770/3000), thrust go down to greeen doot, then after F1 slow down to app. 180knt and stay there. Flaps position, after that, speed never go down!
So I think, that thrust reduction, have some conections beetwen altitude and the approach speed!?
Regards
Igor

Hi there,
seems very strange to me since thrust reduction is used fo takeoff only to select at which altitude the queue should be given to reduce to CLB thrust from TOGA or FLX
At that moment also the flight phase switches to clb phase
