A few issues (both versions)

for ver 2.1.1 it gives me the following error when the component is installed.

Runtime error '~1073741819(c0000005)': Method '~ of object '~' failed.

That happens when i start it with the LCDText connected or if I connect it.

for the Beta3.0 it won't even detect a component attached.

have the phidget.msi installed and tried to follow the rest of the easy start guide but can't get too far.
