CPU Temp high in FSX
hi guys... need some suggestions here..
ASUS P5Q Turbo motherboard
E8400 3.0 CPU
Intel Fan (that came wiht the CPU)
2x2GB OCZ 800 RAM
500watts Generic Power Supply.
Question..
When I start the computer and it's sitting in the desktop mode and nothing running and I run Real Temp 3.0 program.. The Temp is around 41 to 47 degree C..
When I run FSX I watch the Real Temp program, I see the Temp increasing to 99 degree C and stays between 90 and 99 deg C...
I'm sure it's not meant to be that way ...
I'm not even overclocking my CPU and I also have the side case open...
So please help here... Why is the Temp rising so much.. is my CPU or motherboard faulty or ????? I'm sure the CPU should not be running at that high temp... THat would proberly explain why i get stutters in the SIM..
thanks..

Re: CPU Temp high in FSX
I think the temperature seems a little high. Depending on the specs of the CPU, you may or may not be in valid operating range. I have seen specs on CPUs that range from 85 to 110 degrees C.
Typically, and don't quote me on this, this means that your fan is not flush with the surface of the CPU meaning that you will have peaks and troughs and so the heat cannot be dissipated effectively. You may also want to consider getting a better fan or using some more heat conductive paste between the CPU and fan.
All that said, it is normal that the temperature increases when the CPU is under load (which it is when running FS).
Hope this helps.Thanks,
Boaz

Re: CPU Temp high in FSX
Phew! I don't know the E8400 -- maybe they are supposed to run hotter -- but with the i7 range, if they get over about 80C your system shuts down. I thought all of the Intel CPUs did something similar.
I run a Core i7 920 overclocked to 4 GHz and that only gets to about 65C when running FSX. I did purchase a huge cooler for it, which just managed to fit into the case and has two full sized fans on it, otherwise I couldn't overclock from the default 2.66GHz.
I think you need to consider getting a good quality CPU cooler, and propbably investigate the air circulation in your case. Maybe one of the main fans has packed up, or you've not got a proper airflow due to fans being the wrong way round, or maybe cables obstructing things?
I'm not even overclocking my CPU and I also have the side case open...
Regards
Pete

Re: CPU Temp high in FSX
hi guys... and thaks for all your responses and suggestons...
Update on my cpu temp...
I went out and bought a OCZ Vendetta 2 cooler and boy....... what a big difference this made...
Now my temp are at around 31 idle and 43 deg C running FSX....
Wow!!! thats amazing what a good cooler can do... I even went out and bough a new 650watts power supply, but even with the crappy 500watts generic power supply, the temp is so much below normal...
Finally problem solved for the high CPU temp...
Only problem is now that I can't slose the side case cause the cooler is so big that it's sticking a bit out...
Now Ineed to go and buy a new case... No problem as I didn't like the crappy case that came with the computer and being generic... but I'm very happy with the temps now.. much much better ..
thanks for all the suggestions and help ...
