General GA / C182 Cockpit
Hi everyone. I posted introducing myself to the group in the introduction forum but it's not yet online.
Hi everyone. Having loved aviation my whole life, and sim since SubLogic Flight Simulator on the Apple IIE, I finally decided about five weeks ago to build a sim in my basement cave room. Five weekends later it's about done. I'll post some other pics and messages describing the journey, but here's the start five weeks ago (after several weeks of reading and planning) ...
... and here's the sim as of Sunday:
There's also a video of it in action here (using an old GoPro, which is not great in the low light):

I'll post more as I continue work, but I wanted to share this so far. Also I want to pass some credit to Flight Sim Liberty, who's sim was an inspiration for mine (https://www.facebook.com/flightsimliberty/). I hope you like it.

Re: General GA / C182 Cockpit
I'm impressed! What used to be a single-car, attached garage became an extra room many years ago. Around 2004 that room became my ham shack. Sure wish I had the kind of room like yours still left! Great job. I'm envious.

Re: General GA / C182 Cockpit
Thanks. It's continued to be a labor of love. I've been blogging the journey at www.ontheglideslope.net for anyone who might want to learn more. And here's a more recent vid that shows some later touches and refinements. I'm having a great time, that's for sure!

That looks amazing, thanks for posting. What program are you running in the tablet attached to your yoke?

Re: General GA / C182 Cockpit
Hi Shawn. Thanks very much! The program on the iPad is ForeFlight. There is a free version that does a lot of what you would want it to do, but I'm working my way through learning VFR and IFR procedures on PilotEdge so I actually paid for an annual subscription. It connects to the sim via FSXFlight (http://www.fsxflight.com). There is a free alternative to it (see below), but FSXFlight shows traffic on the iPad, which is useful (and really cool).
The free alternative to ForeFlight is FltPlan Go. It looks great, too. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fltp...694832363?mt=8

Thats cool that you can connect foreflight to FSX. I will definitely be looking into this, thanks.
