Help needed - 45 Degree 8 Step Rotary Switches

    Hi all,

The Symulatory MIP kit i purchased was supplied with Rotary switches, but they appear to be 30 degree, 12 step switches, as there are 12 distinct positions when i rotate the spindle.

Looking on Engravity's web site, they supply 45 degree, 8 step switches as part of their electornics pacakage for the various desktop panel kits and not 30 degree, 12 step. I could buy from them, but they want 10 Euro's a switch plus shipping, which seems a little steep.

    Here's Engravity's switch:

Here's the list of what is needed for the center panel:

I have found 45 degree, 8 step switches in Sweden and they are 8 Euro's, but they have 2 different kinds from a UK supplier and i am not sure which to buy. One is a No Stop and the other is a Stop version.

    Here's the data sheet:

    https://www1.elfa.se/data1/wwwroot/a...CK_data_en.pdf

Would these be suitable for my MIP and if yes, is it the Stop version i need or the No Stop?

    Thanks for all the help.

    Regards
    Ben

Re: Help needed - 45 Degree 8 Step Rotary Switches

    Hello Ben,

I also have searched for some 45° switches. I tried to buy them from a distributor in Vienna/Austria. But the would only have ordered it from the vendor with a minimum of 500 parts
Finally I bought them from Opencockpits (6€ / switch - excl. VAT and shipping) for my MIP and Overhead.

Hope that helps. The Stop - nostop version would mean (as I understand it) as it won't stop in one position. It would make a contact, but don't fix the postition.
    best regards, Markus

    Hi Guys,

I bought one. Made a silcone mold of the top cap part with the detent positions, made some minor modifications to the contacts (with some copper and solder) in the bottom cap then molded the 45 deg caps and used the bottoms of the 12 position rotaries. I've made about 10 of these so far.

    Just my 2 cents.

Re: Help needed - 45 Degree 8 Step Rotary Switches

    Hi Guys,

I found a supplier here in Oz and I can get the 45 degree rotary switches for about AUD$9.00 ea, I'll check my paperwork tonight when I get home and post a link to the distributor here later on. I bought a batch of 25 switches and they are ideal for the purpose!

    Cheers, Gwyn
